Written by Una A. Robertson, this book was quite interesting--if you like this type of thing.  I personally am fascinated by the everyday lives of people of the past.  What did they eat?  How did they wash their clothes?  Where did they go to the bathroom?  What medicines were available to them?  After reading about gathering fire wood and peats, lugging gallon after gallon of water home for drinking and cleaning, and having to dodge, er, chamber pot contents being tossed out of upstairs windows in the city, I am very grateful to be alive now.   It might not have been too bad to be a housewife in the 1800's when having many servants was in vogue, but with my luck, I would have been a scullery maid instead of a mistress!  If you hate housework and think that you have it bad nowadays, one look at this book will make you grateful to be living in the 21st century.
