Every year, hundreds, if not thousands, of UFO's are sighted around the
world, and some areas seem to have more than their fair share. Are
these unidentified flying objects really visitors from another planet?
Or is there a much more logical explanation? I personally believe
that all of these sightings can be put into one of the following categories.
80% can
be explained in some way or other. Swamp gas, weather balloons, you
name it.
10%
are hoaxes, lies, and exaggerations.
5%
are secret government experiments that they would never fess up to anyways.
5%
are substance-induced. ("I remember my first acid trip 'cause that's
the first time I saw a UFO" and "Yeah, Jim Bob and me had just finished
off the second case of Pabst Blue Ribbon when we saw the UFO." You
get the point.)
I know, I know, it's pretty benign compared to visitors from another galaxy
and time-travelling Atlanteans, but hey, it makes the most sense!
Of course, the most interesting group to me is the second group, the hoaxsters
and liars. Why would they make it up? What psychological need
is being met when they "invent" a UFO story? I'm not talking about
people who rig up a flying saucer picture as a joke to see if they can
fool their friends. I'm talking about people who fabricate sightings,
maybe even make fake photos and try to pass them off to the public or the
scientific community. One day I'll have to check into this and do
a page! In the meantime, one can only speculate what's going through
their minds. Maybe I'd rather know about those secret government
experiments!
