ABDUCTEES:  FACT OR FANATIC?
Ok, so what is with all of these people claiming to have been abducted by a UFO?  Are they for real?  Do they need serious psycological help?  Are they lying for attention?  Maybe they really did visit a UFO!
While I know that there are lots of people who make up or fantasize about being abducted, there are enough people who genuinely believe that they are abductees to make this worth a closer look.  Often, these people are respected in their community and have no history of mental illness.  They are not known to be liars or stretchers of the truth.  In fact, a lot of them seem as confused as the rest of us, and they seem to be almost embarassed by their experience.
It is these people, and not the weirdos, who I want to look at and theorize about.  Actually, it's not my theory.  It's one that I saw on TV, but unfortunately, I don't remember the show.  (If anyone knows, please e-mail me!)  But anyways, the theory is that shifting plates in the earth spark off electromagnetic energy which induces a trancelike state, complete with halucinations, and this is the source of the "abduction."  This theory notes that the largest numbers of abductee stories occur where there is also a high amount of tetonic plate movement.  In fact, they even showed a laboratory experiment in which the subject's brain was stimulated with electrical shocks designed to simulate those associated with plate movement.  He ended up going through a typical abduction scenario, even though he never left the laboratory!  It may all sound a little odd, but it makes a heck of a lot more sense than being taken aboard a flying saucer!
Of course, there's always my "secret government experiment" theory.  Perhaps the government captures people, performs unspeakable experiments on them, then through drugs and hypnosis convinces them that they were abducted by aliens.  Yeah, I'll stick with the EM theory, too.
If anyone has any more information about this theory, or knows of any resources about it, please e-mail me.  Thanks!
