Our Community:

The regular members of these groups form a small community of folks who share a common interest in collecting 'photoshoot' images. To most, it is an enjoyable hobby that involves much more than just viewing the pictures. The sets must be properly identified and cataloged. The quality or authenticity of the images in the sets must be determined. Then the sets must be properly archived. In an effort to save time, avoid duplicate postings and to maximize the number of series available for collection, an informal system of sorts has been worked out. Some group members who subscribe to 'photoshoot' websites have taken on the responsibility of 'covering' specific websites and do us all the favor of posting new sets of images as they become available at those sites. Much time and effort goes into this endeavor. The sets must be downloaded from the site and indices made. The images must be also be verified or csv files for the set have to be generated. Then the set has to be uploaded to the usenet. In addition to this, the people posting sets from websites want to keep current on their collections also. This means they have to download the sets posted by others from different sites. Other group members have taken on the responsibility of reposting images for those who missed the original post or for those who are just in need of fills to complete a set. If you have any questions, feel free to ask for advice. There are plenty of people here that just love to give their opinions on most any topic dealing with photoshoots. Perhaps in time, as your interest and collection grows, you will feel the urge to contribute to the group as well. Assisting with requests for fills or reposts is an excellent place to start. Not only are you helping the collectors needing the fills but you're helping the original poster as well. Not to mention you will gain experience in verifying pictures and posting also.

A.B.P Repost General Guidelines:

SPAM

Spam has many definitions. For a.b.p the definition is an unsolicited, posted article that is advertising for a service, product or website, whether or not money is involved, and whether an attached file is "on topic" or not.
The a.b.p news group has a zero tolerance policy towards spam. We all must help keep the news groups free of these unwanted posts by sending complaints to the spammers' ISP's. Often it takes a number of complaints to get an ISP to take action.
An ISP needs specific information from a spammer's post in order to identify the offender.
Copy all headers including 'path', 'posting host', 'message ID', etc. Paste it into the body of the email. Address your complaints to abuse@______ or postmaster@______. (If you need help identifying the ISP, please ask.)
On the subject line type something like 'Spam, off topic post, NG charter and FAQ violation'. Hit the send button.
It's best to use a 'real' email address because the ISP will most likely send a reply. You may want to get a throw away address through Hotmail or Net Address for this purpose.

Questions and Answers:

Q. Why are so many of the files named 'imgxxxx.jpg'?
A. That's the name the files are given at the site that they are downloaded from.

Q. My newsreader has a problem handling dupicate filenames. Can you rename the files before posting?
A. No. Select a newsreader that allows you more options when downloading articles.

Q. I was wondering if you would email your pictures to me?
A. No. Do not ask for or participate in email trades. The regulars here share pictures by posting to the usenet.

Q. I use news service provided by my ISP. Usually, only a few of the images in a set show up. Would you please post each set a several times so that there is more of a chance of all of the images showing up?
A. No. If your news service is that bad, complain to your ISP or subscribe to a 'real' news service.

Q. How do I get the attention of a specific person or group of people when posting an article?
A. Place their name between less than and greater than symbols on the subject line.

Q. There is a particular set that I'm looking for, but I don't know all of the specific information about it. (i.e. originating site, date, set number or model) Will anyone be able to help me?
A. Possibly. Post a request for help in a.b.p including the information you have. Attach a sample image from the set if possible. Many of the regulars are very familiar with the many sets that are in circulation and can identify a set from only a description or a sample image. Of course, there are no guarantees.

Q. I would like to post a set but I am not sure if it is appropriate. What should I do?
A. Post an index or a sample to a.b.p attached to a text message requesting advice.

Q. What is a csv file and what is it used for?
A. A csv (comma separated value) file contains information about a set of images or a series of sets of images. The information includes the file names, file sizes and crc values of the image files. It is used for verification of the authenticity of image files.

Q. What format should I use for encoding an image when posting?
A. The most common standard is uu encoding. Mime or base64 encoding cannot be read by some older or shareware news reader programs.
