The Army has Heavy and Light Divisions, plus two "airborne" divisions and
supporting arms
- Heavy divisions have hovertanks, hover APCs, wheeled APCs, and heavy tracked tanks.
- Light divisions have warbirds, Lt.H.APCs, some hovertanks, etc.
There are only two Light Divisions currently
active ( other than the "airborne" divisions), they are optimized for combat
in extremely rough or close terrain. There are also a few independent
light brigades, which can be attached to heavy divisions fighting in rough
or close terrain, or in urban areas.
Infantry
- Light Infantry
- Squad - has 10 troops: a SGT ( sergeant) and commo specialist, plus
two fire teams each with one LMG/SAW and three riflemen.
RPGs and/or Plasmafausts may be issued as needed ( often when the unit is under strength
the SGT takes command of one of the fireteams and dispenses with the separate command group).
- Platoon - has three squads plus HQ squad with LT, PSG, 2 commo spec, and 4 special weapons men.
- Company- has three platoons plus aweapons platoon and HQ section ( which has 6 sniper weapons which
can be issued as needed).
- Battalion - has three line companies, a Weapons Company, and a HQ & Service Company which includes a scout/sniper platoon.
- Heavy( Mechanized) Infantry
- Squad: Infantry organized for a heavy unit equipped with M24 APCs typically
have 11 troops in the squad, 3 in the crew of the APC ( corporal commanding)
and 8 left for dismount. The SGT will act as a fireteam leader if
the dismount group has to split up. Usually one or two RPGs or Plasmafausts
are carried by each squad ( light infantry will also do this when facing
armor heavy foes). Recently the M24B1 or "stretched" M24 has been
introduced, and unit that are issued it have a full 10 troops in their
squads dismount sections, or a total of 13 troops per squad. This
revised TO&E will be the new standard. Older units with M17 APCs
have the 13 troop squads.
- Platoon, Company and Battalion, as light forces above ( except has vehicles).
Infantry Regiments: They can be organized "light" or "heavy", both similar
but the latter with more support vehicles, and heavier ones. The
basic infantry regiment has three battalions, a support battalion, and
a HQ&Service battalion.
- For light infantry most of the transport will be centralized in a supply
& transport platoon in each battalion and a supply & transport
company in the HQ & Service battalion.
- Heavy units will have most of their vehicles distributed, for example a
hover infantry company ( equiped with M24s) will have 16 M-24s, 1 M-243
( TOC), 1 M-322 ( Maint Veh), 1-M760 ( Cargo), and 2 M-26A Warbirds.
- A motorized infantry company would be organized similarly, but with wheeled
vehicles instead of hover.
All three types have a railgun battery in the regimental support battalion,
with 12 Weapons ( 115mm) in 3 firing platoons. These weapons can
fire high angle like mortars using reduced power to vary their muzzle velocity,
or be used in direct fire with full power and high muzzle velocity.
The support battalion also has an air defense battery, a combat engineer
company and a scout company. Light units also have a missile battery
and a regimental hovertank company, while heavy units have a tank ( hover
or tracked) battalion.
Armor
- Armor
- Heavy Tank Platoon - has 4 tanks, plus 2 APCs carrying 14 maintenance/support personnel.
- Heavy Tank Company - consists of three platoons, plus a HQ, and a Maintenance platoon.
- Heavy Tank Battalion - has three companies; plus a support company
with support weapons, air defense, and security elements; and a HQ & Service Company.
- Heavy Tank Regiment - has three tank battalions, plus supporting elements.
- Hovertank Platoon - has 4 M-9 hovertanks, plus 2 Warbirds carrying 10 maintenance/support personnel.
- Hovertank Company - consists of three platoons, plus HQ with 2 M-9s, 1 M-243, 1 M-760, 1 M-26A, and a Maintenance platoon.
- Hovertank Battalion - has three companies; plus a support company
with support weapons, air defense, and security elements; and a HQ & Service Company.
- Hovertank ( or armored, hover) regiment - has three hover tank battalions, plus supporting elements.
- Armored Cavalry
- Armored Cavalry Troop ( equivalent to a company) - three platoons each with 4
M-26C armed warbird scouts and 2 M-24A3s ( total 38 troops), plus a HQ Plt.
- Armored Cavalry Squadron ( equivalent to a battalion) - three troops plus a support
troop, a squadron hovertank company, and a HQ & Service Troop.
- Armored Cavalry Regiment - three squadrons, a support squadron with
12 ( SP) 115mm Railguns, an air defense battery, a hover tank company,
and an air cavalry recon flight; plus a HQ & Service squadron.
- Armored Cavalry Recon Troop - three platoons each with
30 troops and 6 M-26Ds, plus 2 M-26Ds, 2 M-26As, and 2 M-28 ( Lt Hover APCs) in Troop HQ.
- Armored Cavalry Recon Squadron has three troops plus an air cavalry recon flight and a HQ & Service Troop.
Armored Regiment - has one hover tank battalion and two heavy
tank battalions, plus an armored cavalry squadron, an armored support battalion
which includes a combat engineer company, and a HQ & Service battalion.
Divisions
Light Divisions normally have three infantry regiments ( light), one
artillery regiment ( light), one light recon battalion, one hovertank battalion,
one aerial artillery squadron ( gunship), one air transport squadron, one
air defense battalion, one combat engineer battalion, plus HQ and service
elements ( including a rear area security company and an MP company).
In combat they are usually organized into three RCTs.
Heavy Divisions are either infantry or armor. The former normally
have two infantry regiments ( hover), one armored ( hover) regiment, and
often a battalion of MBTs; while the latter normally have one infantry
regiment ( heavy), two armor regiments, and one light infantry battalion.
Both types of division also have one artillery regiment ( SP), an air defense
battalion ( SP), an armored cavalry recon squadron, a helicopter or utility
vertol support squadron, a combat engineer battalion, plus HQ and service
elements ( including a rear area security company and an MP company). In any
case, the division is combat organized into three ( heavy) RCTs in the
infantry division or into three "Heavy Combat Groups" in the armored division.
Walkers
Combat walkers are just entering regular army service, although the
USMC have had them for several years. In USMC service they usually
take part in short duration combat missions, then return to as ASF ship.
Since the army is geared towards continuous combat operations, their issue
operational units was delayed for testing how much maintenance support
they would need under these conditions. Eventually the army designed
a whole new walker, the M-214.
Current Combat Walker/Armored Infantry TO&E is:
- CW/AI Company - has 3 platoons, each 8 troops & 8 walkers, plus a service plt and a HQ,
for a total of 75 troops: 5 officers, 1 warrant officer and 69 enlisted.
- CW/AI Battalion - has 4 companies, a combat support company,
a service company, and a HQ company. There are 120 walkers in the battalion,
28 in each line company and 8 in HQ. The combat support company has anti-artillery/
anti-aircraft MBPGs ( Multi Barrel Plasma Guns) and lasers, plus railguns.
HQ company has a scout/sniper platoon, a security platoon, a commo platoon and a HQ
platoon.
