Version 0.84 of the Population calculator ( release 08/29/2002)

Changed the "average children per marriage" choices so that they are increments of 0.1, rather than 0.5 per step.

Changed the result report's format based on user feedback. The total population, then births, and deaths is given first, then followed by age group subtotals.

Corrected an error in software ( it was not taking into account that the lowest marriage age was 15, rather than the original 16).

Version 0.83 of the Population calculator ( release 08/22/2002)

Lowered earliest marriage age to 15.

Added the option ( button) to toggling the result report between:

140 years ( for colonies).

300 years ( for extrapolating from Twilight War survivors). Enter your initial population in terms of "thousands", so 1,000,000 survivors would be entered into the software as 1,000. Multiply the softwares results by "1,000" to get actual numbers.

Version 0.82 of the Population calculator ( release 01/07/2002)

Added more options for starting population and immigration rates

Version 0.81 of the Population calculator ( release 6/18/2001)

Corrected the population variable roll-over flaw mentioned in 2/14/2001 notes.

--------------------------

Version 0.8 of the Population calculator ( released 2/14/2001)

Changes:

1) the initial population and that of follow on immigrants is now divided
10% - spread over the 20 years above the fertility age zone ( so these will not breed)
30% - spread over the older ( upper half) of the fertility age zone
60% - spread over the younger ( lower half) of the fertility age zone

2) It now automatically updates the table, whenever you change a selection.

3) The results table has been reformatted.

Known Flaws:

If you set marriage age to 16, and fertility to 10 years and 8.0 births per couple, plus have maximum starting population and immigration rate, then the year 140 line is incorrect due to a variable "rolling over". I will fix it in the next version.

Rough Draft Version of a population calculator ( released 2/12/2001)

Select the initial number of colonists landed, plus the amount of immigrants which follow each year after. 2/3rds of these are evenly distributed between the lowest marriage age to ten years above it, and the other 1/3 to the next decade older than that.

Marriage Rate, is how many couples of breeding age try to have children in any year.

Marry At, is the youngest age where people commonly marry.

Fertility is the timespan that children are born over after marriage.

Avg Children is the average number of children born to a family across the fertility timespan.

The program tracks all the ages of the population, from year to year, and applies a gradually increasing mortality ( death) rate ( combined effect of accidents, disease, and old age).

After you have set all the selections, then hit the calculate button.

Summaries of how many people are in each twenty-year age bracket, total population, and the number of deaths that year, are given one on each line.

Later versions will allow you to save the output in a text file, as well as adjust the mortality rates, as well as other data fields.
