Comparing real world prices with 2300's:

For those of you who want to compare real world prices with 2300AD's ( to get a feel for what is cheaper/"more expensive" in 2300 AD compared to "today"), or who want to add items from modern catalogs ( like hiking supplies/clothing), magazine articles ( about cars, aircrafts or firearms), or news articles to your "equipment/vehicle" lists, the following may be of help.

GDW was using a "fast food standard", as the rules say that Lv1.00 equals the cost of a fast food meal in 2300 AD.  [Adventurer's Guide p21]

Back in 1986, if you spent just under $3.00 US, then you got a "decent" ( or is this an oxymoron) higher-end "combo meal" ( one of the chain's "specialty" burgers, plus fries and a drink).  In other words, the buying power of $3.00 US in 1986 was equal to Lv1.00 in 2300 AD.

Back in late 1996, Steven Alexander ( the list's resident economist) and I discussed what the 1996 equivalency would be, and came up with:
  Lv1.00 in 2300 = $4 US in 1996.

Extrapolating from Steven's figures, and my limited observation of how much the "fast food standard" has changed, I have made the following calculations ( rounded to the nearest $0.25) which will help you convert prices you find in "historical/modern" dollars into 2300AD Livre.
