Hershey Park - October 18, 2003

It was a very cold day in Hershey Park, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of those who came out to see the band. Huddled beneath our winter coats, blankets and any other fabrics we could find, we watched the band trying to keep warm. Blowing heat through their fingers, I was amazed they could play so nimbly. Wearing several shirts each, only seemed to encourage their cavorting antics. And the cold only sharpened their wit.

Throughout the three sets, the cold became a common bond, and a shared joke. Rich looked svelte in the fab coat he wore for the Beatles Medley, proving once again that no prop is past its prime. After donning the furry vest for “Sonny and Cher” Jim asked Rich “Can I keep this on?” During the Woodstock Medley I thought how those wigs, that must be a soggy burden during the summer, must have felt great now.

Rich presented his theory that aerobics equals warmth. Not only did he jump around, but he encouraged us to clap along. As Rico he beckoned us to yell “so loud that (our) breath would warm the band.” I don’t know if it was all the hand-clapping, singing, or seat-dancing, but I know I wasn’t the only one in the crowd who left with a warm feeling.
