Malaya

1955-57

.....In 1954, at the request of the Director of Operations in Malaya, an Independent Parachute Squadron was raised from volunteers from The Parachute Regiment. They were to reinforce 22 SAS and to replace their Rhodesian Squadron for operations in Malaya against the communist terrorists, who were attempting to take over the country. Some 80 officers and men were selected to form this squadron and they served in Malaya on operations with 22 SAS until May 1957 when they returned to their respective battalions in the UK.
