Borneo

1965

.....When in late 1964 Indonesia threatened invasion of the young Malaysian Federation, 2 PARA were recalled on New Years' Day and flown to Singapore for jungle warfare training.
C Company 2 PARA and D Company 3 PARA were converted to special patrol companies to assist the SAS on the Borneo/Indonesian border.

The rest of the battalion followed on 12 March 1965 and moved straight to the border, at the height of enemy activity. They were immediately involved in intensive patrolling and established fortified bases to detect and prevent incursions by units of the Indonesian Army. On 27 April one of the fiercest battles of the campaign took place when an Indonesian battalion attacked B Company at Plaman Mapu. They were finally beaten off with 50 casualties for the company's two killed and seven wounded. Patrols, ambushes and skirmishes continued for the rest of the tour, the last actions being fought on 24 June when ten of the enemy were killed for no loss. This short, but intense, Far East tour ended in July of that year.
