All Art Work by Martin

In 1938 I wanted to join the Navy for adventure and to see the world. Due to unforeseen circumstances I found myself enlisted in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. I did see some of the world, and I got more than I bargained for, but I was one of the lucky ones who returned to tell the story of an obscene war. I hope you enjoy sharing some of my adventures, trials and tribulations.

Tom's Banner

I would like to thank Martin Spirit and Bob Cull for allowing me to participate in their pages with a view to remembering the men who did not return to their loved ones. Martin and Bob's efforts also give the younger generation an insight to the futility and mad waste of war. Wars cost lives and money. Rebuilding after the conflict costs more money. Money that could be put to a far better use, such as building hospitals and finding cures for disease. And freeing hungry people from want. But the more sad fact is that for some young men it was the end of a family line gone forever. And I say this, but for those young men of ww2 today's youth would be in two camps. Fascism and Slaves. We who enjoy today's freedom owe an account that can never be paid.
