SPOTLIGHT ON DEAN: For those of you who don't read entertainment magazines, a lot has been happening to DEAN CAIN. Although Dean's ABC-TV show "Lois and Clark" was canceled after four years, he is staying busy. This fall, Dean comes to your neighborhood theater in the film "Best Men," which co-stars Drew Barrymore. The comedy-drama is about a trip to a wedding that gets interrupted by a bank robbery. Dean also will appear in the Showtime cable movie, "Dog Boys," in which he plays an incarcerated, ex-Marine boxer. And for those who can't get enough of Dean as Superman, TNT is showing reruns of "Lois and Clark" six days a week.

In his personal life, Dean has also been busy. He recently became engaged to 21-year-old country singer, Mindy McCready, whose debut album "Ten Thousand Angels" has already gone platinum. Dean met his future bride through his mom, Sharon Cain, who spotted Mindy at the Country Music Awards earlier this year and decided to set them up. When Dean proposed to Mindy, he gave her a twisted circle of bread, instead of a ring, to symbolize "an unbreakable bond." And what did Mindy think of the bread tie (which was green, her favorite color)? "I started crying," she said. "I'll show it to my kids -- your Dad was such a dork he gave me a bread tie! But it's perfect for me. I could care less about traditional stuff like getting the ring first." The couple plans to wed next year.

As for Dean's future acting plans, there is talk that he may play Andrew Cunanan in one of the many film projects about slain fashion designer Gianni Versace. Other actors whose names have been mentioned for the high-profile role are Robert Downey, Jr., Keanu Reeves and Brad Pitt. Dean has also said he wants to portray legendary Hawaiian surfer Duke Kahanamoku.

Finally, for all you trivia buffs out there, Dean played Superman longer than any other actor, including George Reeves who starred in the 1950's TV series.

For several years, Jenny worked for Honda in Japan and had the proud distinction of being Honda headquarters' first non-Japanese female employee and first African American employee. She is now back in the States and is a grad student in English curriculum and instruction.

Although BOB BRADFORD lives in Savannah, he's hardly living the life of a genteel aristocrat. Bob's still in the Army and stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia, where he commands a field artillery battery in the 3d Infantry Division, which specializes in mechanized rapid deployment.

July 1997 Column

With all this talk about the information superhighway, I decided to surf the 'Net to check out some homepages that our classmates have created.

DINA KRAVETS goes for the personal touch on her page (http://www.cs.njit.edu/dina), which has cute photos of her children (along with amusing quotes from her son Gersh). You can also view an extensive family tree on her page. Dina is an assistant professor in the computer science dept. at the N.J. Institute of Technology. NADAV CAINE provides a sight and sound experience on his page (http://www-leland.stanford.edu/~nadav/), which features some of his favorite music and art works. Nadav is a doctoral student in religious studies at Stanford. BILL GEHRIS opts for a more local feel (http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/williamgehris), displaying a recipe for Maryland steamed crabs and photos of his native Baltimore. No word on what Bill is doing except for the fact that he recently got engaged.

Like Bill, MAHBOUD ZABETIAN provides no news on his employment status, but his page (http://www.aggroup.com/mz/) contains an interesting account of his lawsuit against Mercedes Benz. Apparently, Mahboud has had some problems with a defective car that he purchased. I was visitor #5670, so I guess there are either a lot of disgruntled Mercedes owners out there or Mahboud has a lot of friends. ED RUTHAZER's page (http://www.keck.ucsf.edu/~edhazer) does tell us what he's doing -- he's in the graduate neuroscience program at UCSF -- but I didn't really understand anything else on his page. However, there is a nice baby picture of Ed.

Have a nice summer. See you in the fall.

June 1997 Column (with photo)

FUTURE GRIDIRON STAR: This little tiger, Josiah Brownell Harmar, was born Aug. 31, 1996 to EMILY FRANKLIN HARMAR and husband Charley Harmar '71. Mom is the director of communications at Friends' Central School in Wynnewood, PA. Dad is the vice president of the health care capital group at Progress Realty Advisors, L.P. in Bluebell, PA. Emily writes that Josiah is a big Princeton sports fan and has already seen football and hockey games on campus. Another new class baby is Matthew Thomas Miklus, who arrived on Dec. 5, 1996, to parents Steve and WENDY ADAMS MIKLUS.

D.C. FOLKS: At a recent Princeton Club of Washington event to welcome incoming freshman, I ran into two '88ers: CONNIE BETTERTON and PETER REILLY. Connie is a policy analyst at the National Association of Student Financial Aid. She lives in Arlington, VA, with husband Chris Salotti. Peter, who edits the Princeton Club's newsletter, is an attorney-advisor at the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. Also in D.C. are class treasurer KIMBERLY CONLIFFE STEPHENS and husband REED STEPHENS. Kim is a manager at Andersen Consulting, and Reed is a civil trial attorney at the Dept. of Justice.

TEN YEARS AGO ON CAMPUS: The director of the N.J. Division on Civil Rights orders Ivy and T.I. to admit women; clubs announce they will appeal. Students circulate petition opposing reappointment of Dean of Students Eugene Lowe. Hoops coach Pete Carril modestly calls his recruiting class "decent"; the team will go on to capture four straight Ivy titles. Men's lacrosse finishes a disappointing 3-12; five years later, the team will win its first of three national championships.

May 1997 Column (with photo)

Jonathan Hettinger has moved to Miami Beach and spends a great deal of time traveling around Latin America, for work and fun. After several years working in publishing, Antonia Jameson has made a major life change. She is now in a joint D.V.M.-Ph.D. program at Cornell, where she splits her time between learning veterinary medicine and doing research in molecular cell biology. Antonia married Phil Jordan GS 85 in July 1994. Charles Norton is a National Research Council postdoctoral research associate in the supercomputing group at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. His work involves new programming techniques for simulation of fusion energy plasmas and related scientific computations. Doug Weston is an actor and lives in both L.A. and N.Y.C.

ONE MORE YEAR: Don't forget that our Ninth Reunion is set for May 29 to June 1. Hope you can make it.
