What is the appeal of the unexplained to people? Could it be the process of forming a hypothesis as to why an event occurs? Perhaps the stories about the unexplained? The fact is, we all have our own reasons for being fascinated with the unexplained. From UFO's to conspiracy theories to hidden government facilities, people remain fixated on knowing that which cannot be explained.

Personally, I feel that the reason people are so fascinated by the unexplained is simple: it's unexplained. Curiosity is a part of human nature. Thus, the unexplained captivate us. We are compelled to learn more about a subject that fascinates and is unknown to us. For example, telephones transmit voice and information. Old news. Cool, but people know how they work. Now, take a UFO or something that people theorize about and there you have a story! People want to know how they fly, who flies them and even if they exist.

Luckily for us, human nature is to explore and discover the unexplained. Without that human inclination to explore and tinker, you would not be reading this on your monitor right now. There would be no modems, computers, or even televisions. So, when it comes to the unexplained, we have almost a need to know. People have a thirst for knowledge, and theories and hypotheses of the unexplained feed this hunger.

Perhaps one of the most probable reasons people flock to the unexplained is that it gets them away from the normal drone of their ho-hum lives and lets their imaginations wonder. The realization that there is more to life, the universe and everything to just them are not only refreshing, but also a temporary escapes into something much larger than this Earth. Think to an event that you cannot explain. Is it a strange sound in your house late one night that you couldn't explain? Perhaps strange lights that you saw and cannot explain. As you sit and ponder the possibilities, your mind begins to drift, leaving you in your own little world of possibility; having almost the wonder of a child in Disneyland.

Either way, the point is that people are fascinated by the unexplained. Be it something paranormal or an abnormality of science, people are drawn to strange events. Whether it is because they want a temporary escape or if they just want to study it, it will always be there. Who knows, years down the line, our grandchildren could be pondering strange unknowns about their world, while driving around in their flying vehicles. Time will tell.
