| South Orange is very easy to get to by car bus or train. below you will find good driving directions and information about New Jersey Transit Trains. For Bus info please call NJ Transit. Buy Car From the North New Jersey Turnpike south to Exit 15W take the exit to Route 280 west (there is no 280 east) Take 280 about 5 miles to the Clinton street exit. (Rt 280 splits for a bit stay to the right it will say Oraton Parkway stay to the right past the left hand exit for the Oraton Parkway. The highway will come together again stay to the right take the next exit This will put you on Freeway drive. You will be above 280 and running parallel. Go several traffic lights to Evergreen take the Left. When Evergreen crosses Central Avenue there is a supermarket on the opposite corner and sweeping curve to the right the road will become Sanford. Follow Sanford to Tremont (a main street with a traffic light) Take a Right on Tremont You will pass the Veteran�s Hospital on the left About 5 blocks farther you will come to Scotland Road ( if you come to the railroad tracks you went too far). Turn Left on Scotland. Several blocks and turn Right on Montrose one block then Left on Vose. The second right should be Mead Turn Right on Mead the Baird is just past the train trestle on the right park in the lot. Garden State Parkway From the North Take GSP to Exit 144 South Orange Avenue When you get off you will make a right on Oraton Parkway (the first street you come to) You will be traveling back the way you came for a few block. The street will end you must turn either right or left turn Right under the GSP take the first real left turn to a street, there is a small left that would put you back on the GSP. Go to the end of the street and Turn LEFTon to South Orange Avenue. Travel on S Orange Avenue past Seton Hall University on your left. Go several more blocks you will cross Prospect (Rite Aid on the corner). *Keep going you are in South Orange you will see a Block Buster Video on your Right this is Vose Turn Right. You will pass the post office take the first left this is Mead go under the trestle and the Baird is on your right. GSP from the South Take GSP north to exit 140 when you get off aim for RT 22 East. You will be on 22 East for just a short time when you pass Chucky Cheese on your Right you will pass under Vaux Hall Road take the right up the ramp to Vaux Hall. Turn right onto Vaux Hall you will go a very short distance to the first right turn Oakland (Stop light) follow Oakland to the end. Turn right on Stuyvesant follow Stuvyesant a short way (cemetery on your left) you will pass under RT 78 the next left is Stanley. Left on Stanley up the hill to the traffic light at Burnett, Right on Burnett one short block (Quick Check on Corner) Turn left on Laruel two blocks Right on Concord Quick Left on to Prospect. Follow Prospect crossing Springfield Avenue in a block or two Prospect will curve to the right stay on it. Cross Tuscan (Church on corner) Cross Parker (Ethical Cultural on corner) in a few block Prospect will curve left a little in a block or three you will pass a large church on your Left. Continue on to South Orange Avenue a �T� intersection Rite Aid is in front of you. Turn left on South Orange Avenue Follow Directions * GSP From North. From the West Take 280 east to Prospect exit toward West Orange Exit 8A stay on Prospect past the Mall on your right till you come to a T intersection with Northfield Avenue. Turn left down the hill, at the light, Gregory, turn right. Follow Gregory out to South Orange Avenue. (Really big street) Turn left down the hill At the first traffic light Ridgewood ( a church on the right across the street) Turn Left the first intersection on your right is Mead (you will have passed a large pink school building) take the Right on Mead the Baird is on your left just before the train trestle. RT 78 East Bound Or take RT 78 East be sure to be in the local lanes It will be exit 49 A or B for Maplewood. Look for the sign for Maplewood. At the top of the exit you will be on Springfield Avenue, you can only go in one direction follow the road around you will pass Home Depot, keep going straight. When you come to the intersection of Prospect and Springfield (Summit Bank is on the far left corner), you will take a left. Follow the street around a curve to the right. Stay on Prospect for a long way you will pass Parker Avenue in a few block Prospect will curve left a little in a block or three you will pass a large church on your Left. Continue on to South Orange Avenue a �T� intersection Rite Aid is in front of you. Turn left on South Orange Avenue Follow Directions * GSP From North Train The fastest way to South Orange is by New Jersey Transit Train, Mid-Town Direct. The train leaves from Penn Station and takes between 30 and 45 min. depending on the time of day. Be sure to buy your ticket in the station there is a heavy fee to buy on the train. If you are coming from Brooklyn you may wish to come through Hoboken. Take the Path to Hoboken and catch train to South Orange usual called the Dover Train. Once you get off the train exit through the station, the platform is being renovated and some of the stairs are closed. Walk toward South Orange Avenue (should be to your left). There is a good bakery and coffee shop right there, a Strbucks next door and a Dunken Doughnuts is across the plaza. Turn right on South Orange Avenue about half a block and turn left on Vose Street. There is a sandwich shop on the corner. In about a block you will pass the post office walk to the first left you can talk this is Mead Street. Walk down the hill and under the train trestle. The Baird is on your right. Bus The bus leaves from the Port Authority of New York. You will need to check with new Jersey Transit for times and routes. The bus will let you off near the train station follow the directions above. If you come to the Rescue Squad building at Third Street turn around you went the wrong way |
