Paul's hymn like "Let It Be" seems to have been a response to the heavy 
pressure of the additional responsibilities he took on as unofficial leader 
after Brain Epstein's death.  As he said, "I wrote it when all those 
business problems started to get me down... writing the song was my way of 
exorcising ghosts."  The original version with John on bass and Billy 
Preston on organ, had already been a million selling hit single two months 
earlier.  An alternative version, in which George plays a different guitar 
passage, is included on the album.
