THUNDER
 Sharon ([email protected])

Thunder boomed in the distance. The ground shook with it's roar. Far to the Southwest, clouds formed. Father hitched up the team to the wagon and Mother gathered their belongings and the children, and got into the wagon and snuggled together in back under the tarp. Father tied old Dobbin to the back and climbed up front and urged the oxen forward. They needed to get to shelter before the storm reached them.

Slowly they made their way and could see an army outpost ahead. Father cracked the whip and hurried the team. Soon they were at the entrance and were allowed in. Mother and children scrambled out of the wagon and Father alit. He told the soldiers that he was sure glad to reach shelter before the storm hit.

"That ain't no storm," spoke a private.

"It sure am. We can hear the thunder and see the clouds."

"No Sir! That ain't no storm you be seeing. That is a herd of buffalo. What you be hearing is the thunder of hooves and the dust cloud they be sending forth."

"We ain't seen no buffalo in our lives," said little Jake.

"Well, little feller. Climb up here on this here wall and take a gander."

Just then the buffalo stampeded by the fort. Jake let out a Whoop. It was a magnificent sight to behold.
