 David ([email protected])
I saw a penny on the floor,
'twas just inside the open door;
it lay there without care,
without why or where or want.
It didn't want for any pocket,
it didn't care to be in a safe;
the one who picked it up
would never know
how far that penny had to go
to reach its final destination;
and neither would the penny
have any inclination
toward its end-up-ness,
whether in the plate
by church's child,
or by the drunken sot
in night so wild;
and neither ever given thought
to what that mindless
penny bought.
