SOMEWHERE NEAR FIFTY
 Steve ([email protected])
If the sounds your body's making
Leave no guesswork for the taking
And you find that you are baking
Yet another apple pie
For a party that you're hosting-
Don't forget the meat is roasting! -
Someone stands; begins their toasting
Of another year gone by.
If you Snap, Crackle, and pop
Picking up the keys you drop
And you know you're gonna stop
At the very next rest room.
Va-va-voom has vanished
Think of learning to speak Spanish
And the rock and roll's been banished
To the Van out by the barn.
You say that you are thrifty
You use a word like 'nifty'
And the thought of turning fifty
Is a pleasant memory.
Was it this year or the last one
When he promised you some fast fun
If his old jalopy would run
Take that trip up to the lake?
And the sun is quickly setting
On another year, Here's betting
That more time in hammock netting
Is much easier to take.
As your nightcap you are sipping
Rocking slowly, watch the tipping,
Another day goes slipping
Joining more that have gone by.
Than the days that lie before you
It's amazing that they're brand new
Every thought leads to what is true
Share the memories with others passing by.
