FISHING AND BOATING WAS AWESOME
 Betty Ellen ([email protected])

Several years ago Bob and I had a Mark Twain boat with a canopy on top to keep the sun off us. We fished for hours in a river called the "Fox River". We used to pack a lunch with the usual pop, sandwiches, fruit, munchies, and the kids would bring a friend each.

Bob would drop anchor and we would sit in the boat with transistor radio on. But we must use earphones so we didn't scare the fish, Bob would say. I didnt do much fishing but usually read or just watched. I always thought too many poles in the water; the lines would all get tangled up. I really thought people who were fisherman had the patience of a Saint. I was not too happy with worms, or some of the other bait fishermen used.

In fact, when our daughter first started fishing she wouldn't bait her hook. We told her that she had to bait it herself or she couldn't fish. She finally decided she would wear rubber gloves to bait her hook and then she could do it, and that is how she did it from then on.

In fact, one time our son went with us and the zipper broke on his trousers. He tied his sweater on backwards to hide the open zipper because he didn't we hadn't brought any other clothes with us. From then on I always brought extra clothes for the kids, just in case.

We took that boat to other places, including Lake Michigan, and that was awesome! The big boats would make such a big wake it really scared this ole gal. I couldn't swim but I sure did love to sit and watch the wake from the boat. It was so much fun. It felt good when Bob went flying through the water and it sprayed all over us. We had an excellent view of the Chicago skyline and those were memories Bob and I will never forget.

He bought this lovely boat for him and our son to take a trip on the Mississippi River after our son got out of the Service. He wanted them to spend an overnight on their trip so they could get acquanted again. I stayed home anxiously waiting to hear about what had taken place on their fishing adventure. I stayed home so they could have some time together...Dad and his son who had come home from the service.
