THE ANNIVERSARY
 Phyllis Ann ([email protected])
On a day in early fall,
My wedding day I do recall.
I was young and very much in love,
And as happy as a turtle dove.
The years they swiftly flew,
And soon my youth I had to bid adieu.
Now, the autumn day has turned into my autumn years,
And I face them with only a few fears.
Our fortieth anniversary will soon come and go,
Will there be a fiftieth, I'd like to know?
The next ten years, I hope to live to the fullest of my ability,
On both our parts, this will take amiability.
Some consider forty years with the same mate as a feat rare indeed,
But to me our marriage is just something in which we both wanted to succeed.
There have been both good and bad times through the years,
And we have faced them together, not without some tears.
Every marriage has its ups and downs,
For a divorce there have never been any grounds.
Any advice to newly weds I would want to give,
Just try to follow the "golden rule" as you live.
