THANKSGIVING DESSERT

 David ([email protected]))

The challenge for November is: "It had been sixteen years since she/he had been home for Thanksgiving and this year she/he was going".

"How I have changed", Lyn thought, "since my last Thanksgiving at home". From sixteen to thirty-two was a sizeable jump. Although still unmarried, and unburdened with children, she hadn't given up on the prospect of changing both. "I'm still fairly pretty, and not lacking in gumption enough to show off my curvacious figure, and flash my come-hither green eyes", she bragged to herself.

This Thanksgiving was purported to be something special---nay, something unusual. Her mother had invited for her traditional turkey dinner not only the immediate family members, but also some close friends from her church singles group--------mother was widowed. There was to be a visiting session after dinner, with a little wine and exchanging of pleasantries.

The table was set for eight, including four non-family guests in addition to Lyn, her mother, and sisters Grace andf Peggy. As the group congegated around the splendidly-set table, introductions were announced to be left for the socialization following the meal.

Lyn was not a potatoes person.

"Bring on the dressing and gravy", she said aloud, "------and I'll have the dark meat'.

The young man seated at her left expressed his agreement.. "I'm with you, young lady. And let's add add a few glasses of that ruby-red port over there as a digestive aid, if not a mind-clearer!". He reached over for the bottle, and filled his and Lyn's glasses to near-brim.

"I like the way this afternnoon's going!", Lyn opined to herself, as she and her left-hand companion chattered enthusiastically, and drank more port. Little did she then know the evening was to hold even more "going".

"I'm Lyn. May I have your name? I can't wait til later to know."

"You're Lyn, I'm Wyn", he offered. " We're in rhyme!"

Later, as the fall sun approached the horizon, goodbyes were said and guests and family members expressed thanks to the hostess, and went their appointed ways.

"May I take you home?", Wyn asked.

"Why yes, you may. Very nice of you to offer", Lyn replied with noticed immediacy.

(She decided to pick her car up later.)

Mother, sipping her chablis in the background, wasn't missing a word. In the car Wyn asked "Would you like to come to my appartment for a nightcap?" Again, without hesitation, Lyn erupted "I thought you'd never ask". And thus began the rest of their lives.
