ODE OF APPRECIATION
 Lary ([email protected])
How innocent and shy you are;
so unaware of joys you bring
on flurried wings. I watch in awe
at how you zero in, arrive
light-footed on your landing perch.
You jostle for more feeding space
and flutter through my balcony
with casual grace. Your swoop-and-dart
delivery of chirps and trills
can spark the dullest day and raise
my musty thoughts to fresher heights.
I am your servant, yet you show
no sign of recognition, for
you do not care who fills your plate --
you only know it's there. I smile,
because the gratitude is mine.
