My favorite "little red wagon" is a tiny replica of the one we had as kids, which I hang on my Christmas tree. Forty years ago, when my first son was a baby, I found out that it is not really safe to have glass balls on a Christmas tree, especially around the bottom of the tree where crawling babies find lots of intrigue. So I began to buy miniature toys to trim the tree with, and the little red wagon was the favorite. With the birth of my second son and then my daughter, I tried to get a miniature toy special just for them. But their favorite was always the little red wagon, just like the one in the backyard. My Christmas tree has all toy replicas now and is really different from the usual tree.
My daughter now has her own family and Christmas tree, and has carried on with the tradition of minature toys. Of course, every year she finds one or two of mine that she just "has to have" and they make their way to her house. This makes me happy because I want my grandchildren to enjoy the same things that their Mother enjoyed as a child. Someday, they will all be passed on to them, especially the little red wagon.
