BACK FROM THE CITY
 Frannie ([email protected])

Back from the hectic pace of the city,
the busy sidewalks, the wandering tourists,
the skyscrapers reaching toward heaven.
The screeching traffic, the noisy shops,
Smells of pretzels baking and hot dogs roasting
as street-corner vendors ply their trade.
Flowers blooming in Rockefeller Centre,
tourists lined up for Broadway shows,
Buses, taxis, delivery vans, limousines.
Commuters rushing to catch the train back home.

Back home:

Quiet streets, leafy trees, flowers blooming.
Wind chimes dancing on my patio,
clanging loudly in the gusty breeze.
Beaches filled with people soaking up the sun.
The roar of mighty ocean waves.
Excited crowds trekking through our Village as they
return from the 2002 US Open Golf Tournament.
The wonderful aroma of hamburgers, steaks and hotdogs
cooking on each patio.
Rollerblading, skateboarding, children at play.
Dogs yapping in their yards, cats sitting in sunny windows.
And, oh yes, the birdies waiting for me to park my car,
and the squirrels digging in my flower bed.
