Weldon Adams was among the seventy-five drivers who competed in the first Southern 500 at Darlington Speedway.  Adams wheeled his '49 Plymouth from the seventy-second starting spot to finish an impressive fifteenth.  He captured two top-5 finishes in his career and seven top-10s.  1950 was his most prolific year competing in NASCAR's top division.  Despite starting only four of the nineteen races held that year, Adams finished fifteenth in the final point standings.  Weldon competed at Speedway Park in Martinez, GA when not racing in NASCAR.  He was honored in 2007 during the annual Augusta Drivers Reunion by having a street named after him.
