| Francis Affleck moved from his native Cananda to Charlotte, NC in 1977 in persuit of a career in stock car racing. Francis ran a few races in the late 70's in the ARCA Series. He drove former Cup racer Bill Hollar. Affleck got his chance at NASCAR in 1984 when he competed in three Busch Grand National races. After that ride fell through, Affleck returned to Daytona in 1985 with an ARCA ride. Sadly, he was killed in a pracitce crash when his car spun between Turns 1 & 2 then rolled several times. Reports indicate that the window net on Affleck's car failed. He was the first driver fatally injured at Daytona in an ARCA car. Affleck's death changed the way window nets are constructed on stock cars today. | |||||||
