| Axel Anderson was a modified legend in the North East, regularly competing on tracks in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. He had a brief career in NASCAR which included two starts on Daytona's beach course. Axel made his debut in NASCAR on the beach in 1955. Anderson started 41st in a field of 48 cars and worked his way up to finish a respectable 15th. Later in the year he would qualify for the race at Langhorne Speedway, a track known for devastating crashes. Axel suffered a scary spill during the race, rolling his Mercury several times. He would not be in NASCAR again until 1958. After starting three races in '58 and crashing out of two of them, Axel returned to New York and focussed on his modified racing. Axel's legacy in modified racing lives on as he is the father of 1994 NASCAR Modified Series champion Wayne Anderson. | |||||||
| Axel takes a tumble at Langhorne Speedway in 1955. Langhorne was a track known for bad crashes and is still known as one of the most dangerous tracks ever built. Fortunately, Anderson was able to walk away from this crash and race another day. | |||||||
