| Nov11 2005. The 151st anniversary of the formation of the Ballarat Reform League, the 87th anniversary of Armistice Day 1918, the 30th anniverary of the dismissal of the Whitlam Labor Government in 1975 also featured in a survey of history of the day by Dr Joe Toscano of the Anarchist Media Institute, which organised the event. Those present joined in a re-affirmation of the Eureka Oath - which was proudly displayed on one of several magnificent banners erected outside the Gaol - and observed the traditional minute's silence. The call also went out to join in 'reclaiming the radical spirit of the Eureka Rebellion' in Ballarat on the weekend of 3-4 December, including a "Sedition Sunday" organised by People for Civil Liberties and Peacebus.com in Eureka Park, Ballarat, from 11am on Sunday 4 Dec. | ||||||
| Nov11 Group says NO TO PARLIAMENT, YES TO MASS ACTION! DIRECT DEMOCRACY - DIRECT ACTION - SOLIDARITY In the tradition of the Ballarat Reform League, the following resolution was put forward and voted on unanimously on November 11 outside Old Melbourne Gaol. 1. Howard the bully (and his 'Labor' collaborators) to desist from attacking workers and the most vulnerable in our community. 2. complete withdrawal of the IR laws, and of the "anti-terrorist" laws which will only create a closed society and do nothing to stop terrorism. 3. automatic and immediate recall of all parliamentarians who break their promises. 4. an inclusion of a Bill of Rights into the Australian constitution. 5. an end to militarism and imperialist aggression. 6. a treaty with the indigenous people as set out in their black GST campaign. It is a national and international disgrace to be the only country which doesn't have such a treaty. These modest reforms would shift the Australian political landscape in a libertarian/egalitarian direction. They will only become a reality with a sustained push from below on the streets, the community and in the workplace. We are inviting all concerned citizens, unions, workers, to consider supporting these resolutions. We will keep pushing for them regardless of who is in parliament. for more info ring John: 0404 423 989 |
