Tales of Phantasia is a super fun game that was easy to write for. Please note that I had no outside assistance at all so I may have missed some important things. I cannot help this and spent way over 100 hours trying to find things in multiple files. I advise maybe checking out the other wonderful walkthroughs as well to see if they found anything I missed, and vice versa. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- | TOTUS | ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- | Items | Apple, Pendant, Small Sack | ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- You start off the game by selecting the name of the main character. This is the only character that you can rename, by the way. I just kept his name as Cless, so when I mention Cless for the majority of the walkthrough, I am referring to the main character. Simple stuff. The game opens with a weird scene involving four warriors who are trying to capture a powerful spirit. They are on the verge of defeat when one of them finishes off the spirit with a destructive magic spell. 10 years later, your quest begins as you are introduced to the main character, Cless Arvein, and his parents. Cless has a pendant that his father wants to speak to him about. Once this scene is over (you will also meet your best friend Chester and his sister Amy), you can now walk around town. Take a second to get used to the menu system and anything else you want to accustom yourself with, this game is very unique, especially if you haven't played a Tales game before. Go to the item shop, and the owner will give you an Apple to give to Amy. Bring the apple to her, then try to leave town. Tristan will interrupt you and wonder where you are going. He will wish you good luck on your trip hunting and he says he is going south to visit a friend. Well, okay then. Time to go to the forest and get some hunting done! Save on the world map if you wish, then enter the forest to the southeast of the town. It's not that far so don't worry. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- | SOUTHERN FOREST | ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- | Items | Life Bottle | --------- | | Enemy | Bee, Bugbear, Owl | --------- | | Boss | Boar/Boar Child x3 | ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- When you enter the forest, run down for a little bit, and Chester will see a boar. You decide to chase after it. First, go right and then up for a Life Bottle, then run around and level up for a little while. It's important to get to about Level 5 here, because then you get the kick ass Dual Kick attack. On Level 2, you receive the Psion Bolt attack. Keep using them, because later you will get a great skill if you use both of these skills 100 times. This is also a good time to get used to the battle system and get stronger. Go back down, then left, then down, and right until you see the boar. He runs away, so follow it until you get to a tree. You can't really see the boar, so Chester runs off to look for it. Suddenly, a spirit emerges from the tree and tells Cless that he must protect this tree. Woah. Chester returns and comments that Cless looks like he just saw a ghost. Heh. The boar then appears, for our first boss fight of the game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | BOSS FIGHT! | BOAR AND BOAR BABY X3 | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Boar | 200 HP, O TP, 20 EXP, 60 Gold, No Weakness | | Boar Baby x3 | 30 HP, 0 TP, 2 EXP, 1 Gold, No Weakness | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the first boss fight of the game, so of course it's not that challenging. The important thing here is to get rid of the Boar Babies first. They are more of a nuisance than anything else, but it's always good to have 1 enemy to deal with rather than four, so take care of them first, with the Psion Bolt attack over and over. Once they are all defeated, focus on Boar with the Dual Kick attack, and finish it off with regular attacks if you run out of TP. Chester will also help a little with bow and arrow attacks from long range, so don't worry too much about this battle. ---- The town's alarm suddenly starts ringing. In Totus, I talked to a guy by a bell and he said that he only rings the bell if there's an emergency.. so there must be one now! Quickly return home to Totus. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- | TOTUS | ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Back in Totus, the worst case scenario has happened. The entire city has been destroyed, with many people dead and buildings that are on fire. What could have happened? Run up to Cless's house to see a sad scene with Cless's father and mother. His mother tells him to go to Euclid to see his uncle, then dies. Chester comes back, and doesn't want to go with Cless, because he feels the need to get a proper burial for his sister and the other residents of the town. So, you're on your own for now on the trip to Euclid. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- | MOUNTAIN PASS | ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- | Items | Life Bottle, Orange Gummy | --------- | | Enemy | Bee, Bugbear, Owl, Wolf | ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- You will enter here and see a statue and a merchant selling items. Buy some items from the merchant, then pull the statue down, holding the A button, and follow the path, picking up a Life Bottle and Orange Gummy along the way. You can also pick up some experience points due to the insane amount of random battles in this game. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- | EUCLID | ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Euclid is where you'll finally get some peace, as your uncle is here. First, go to the shop and buy a Rod and Leather Glove, then go to the house in the northwestern part of town to meet your uncle. He will ask you to stay the night, then in the middle of night, he turns you in. He apologizes and says they threatened to destroy the entire city if he didn't turn you in. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- | PRISON CELL/SEWERS | ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- | Items | 1000 Gold, Apple Gummy x2, Creamy Cheese, Earring, Longsword, | | | Rapier, Savory, Wooden Shield | --------- | | Enemy | Bugbear, Slime | --------- | | Boss | Devil/Slug x2 | ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Ah, the obligatory RPG escape from a prison scene. At least we're getting it out of the way now. You'll awaken in a prison cell, and you cannot open the door below you. Instead, check the hole in the top left corner of your cell. A strange voice will startle Cless. Now, go to the hole and a woman will open up the door somehow. Strange. Go up and check the corpse to get a Longsword, which allows you to unlock the doors. Now, go to the upper right hand corner of the jail cell to pick up the Creamy Cheese before meeting up with Mint. She is convinced that her mother was in the jail cell to the left.. right where the corpse Cless found was. Uh oh. Cless quickly distracts her. Mint joins your party as a valuable supporter now, with good magic and healing capabilities. Go down, then right, and up, and enter the sewers. In the sewers, get the Apple Gummy and Orange Gummy here, then save your game at the save point. At the intersection, go left for a Wooden Shield, then go back and right this time. Get the Apple Gummy now. Go up the stairs, then right underneath that stonish platform, and pick up the Savory and Rapier here. Go down and left, then save. Head left, up, and right to get 1000 Gold, then return to the save point, and go right and up this time. Heal up because a boss is here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | BOSS FIGHT! | DEVIL AND SLUG x2 | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Devil | 250 HP, O TP, 60 EXP, 500 Gold, No Weakness | | Slug x2 | 120 HP, 0 TP, 12 EXP, 33 Gold, No Weakness | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These bosses gave me more trouble than the first bosses, and I actually died here once before defeating them with relative ease the second time. The Slugs move fast and once they start spitting that gunk at you, it's hard to get back into the fight because they will keep spitting it over and over again. Therefore, use Psion Bolt quickly to take care of both of them from long range, then either attack or use Dual Kick on the Devil to finish them off. Mint will be helpful with her First Aid spell, despite the fact she takes way too long to cast it sometimes. Stupid girl. ---- After this battle, you'll eventually wake up in a stranger's house. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- | MORRISON'S HOUSE | ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- | Items | Heavy Stone (Knight's Sabre if you want it) | ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- This scene here will be pretty intense. Morrison admits that he know Cless and Mint's parents, as they worked together ten years ago to seal off Dhaos, an evil spirit, forever. Woah. So that's what the beginning of the game really means. Anyways, he is going to the tomb to seal Dhaos again or something, but he doesn't want you to come along. So, you know what that means. After the scene, exit the house (listen to that cool song, it's all J-Poppy good) and Chester will rejoin your cause. Whoo. Get the Heavy Stone from the left side of the screen in the first room of Morrison's House. It's hidden in the trees. Now, stock up on new equipment from the merchant. If you don't have enough, go to the cave to the east and build up gold there for a little while. That's what I did. You should return to Totus now to get the Knight's Sabre as well, it'll come in handy in this upcoming dungeon. When you are done, enter that tomb to the east, and prepare to meet Dhaos. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- | TOMB | ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- | Items | Apple Gummy, Chain Mail x2, Cheese, Creamy Cheese x3, Laced Ruby, | | | Lavender, Mixed Gummy x2, Orange Gummy, Protect Ring, Rabbit's | | | Foot, Remedy Bottle, Reverse Doll, Rune Bottle, Sage, Spyglass | --------- | | Enemy | Bugbear, Falcon, Ghoul, Golem, Skeleton, Slug, Zombie | ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Walk around the path, after a little while you'll meet up with Tristan, who will give you the Psion Kick technique. However, you need to get your Psion Bolt and Dual Kick techniques to 100% before you can use it, so practice those techniques now. Hopefully you've been doing that like I recommended so you won't have too much more to go now. In this next section, you can go up in each room and face off against a zombie in the coffin. I originally thought this served some sort of greater meaning, but you just get items (Protect Ring, Spy Lens, Hourglass, Chain Mail, and Rune Bottle) for doing so. Oh well. Make sure to remember the location of the locked door here. You'll need to come back to it later. Go down the stairs all the way. Once you are finally at an intersection, go down and get an Apple Gummy and Creamy Cheese from the rooms here, then go back to the intersection and go right and up through the door. Here, go up to get a Sabre, then down and right to get a Chain Mail from the northern door. In this room, search the fourth statue from the left. Go south and get the Sage, Mixed Gummy, and then go right and pick up the Cheese before saving at the save point. Go north and check the statue to get involved in a fight with a Golem. Defeat it using your kickass techniques, then drag the statue down to the lower left corner of the room. Put it on the switch, and get the Lace Ruby. Now, exit this room, and go right and enter that room for an Orange Gummy, Remedy Bottle, and Creamy Cheese. Now, return all the way to that locked door I told you about before. It now opens because of the Lace Ruby, and in the next room, you'll be transported into the deeper parts of the tomb. There's lava and moving platforms everywhere. Take the platform to the lower left for a Reverse Doll, then ride the platform to the upper right to hit a switch. Take the platform on the top right for a Rabbit's Foot and Cheese. Go back to where you started and take the newly accessed lower right platform. However, disaster strikes, as the Lace Ruby falls out of Cless's pocket on the way across. What a dork. Now, go south and get the Lace Ruby, but it will slip again. Man oh man. Step on the levitation platform, then go to the basement (it's to the southeast of where you started), and get the Lace Ruby and a Lavender from a treasure chest. Return to the levitation point and enter the locked door now. Save your game, and you'll have to deal with a Golem on each side in the final battle here. They haven't gotten any harder, however. After this battle, you will see Malice unleash Dhaos, who promptly kills him. Haw haw. Tristan decides to teleport you with magic, but Chester stays behind stupidly. You'll wake up in the middle of nowhere, with a nice little scene. Time to find out where we are, so exit here.. and hmm.. this looks oddly familiar, doesn't it? <-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+> | 6.0 |--------------------------------------------| SECRETS AND SIDE QUESTS | <-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+> <-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+> | 7.0 |-------------------------------------------------------------| GUIDES | <-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+-=-+> *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- <-------------------------------> 7.2 Bosses <-------------------------------> *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | BOSS FIGHT!
