However, I played it several years back and wasn't all that impressed. I eventually gave up for a while, forgot where I was supposed to be going, and just never played that file again. Recently, I was motivated by a friend to try the game out again, and man was I hooked. I found this to be one of the greatest RPGs I've ever played, and it is a great game to write for, as it's not too long and there's a lot of side stuff to find that most people will undoubtedly need a FAQ for. Especially when it comes to finding all 108 characters that you need in order to get the best ending and some extra bonuses for the equally incredible sequel. It was a lot of fun to play the game and to write this walkthrough, and make sure to post on the board or send me an email if you need help. How can I remove runes off guys like Hero and Pahn? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A: You can't. Some characters have their runes permanently equipped. It sucks, I know, especially since each character can only have one rune equipped at a time. Therefore, guys like Hero and Pahn are stuck with their runes for the entire game. It's unfortunate and probably the biggest flaw in this game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. How do I run? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A: Another big flaw, since you can't run unless you have Stallion in your party or waste a rune slot and equip someone with the Holy Rune. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. What are the best characters? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A: Since there are 108 to choose from and most of them are playable, there's bound to be many different opinions. I always used Hero of course, since you have to, but he's a strong attacker and his magic is just BROKEN. Judgment does 1500+ to a single enemy, making it awesome against bosses. Hell kills ALL characters in a battle. Use this spell near a healer like the guy in Moravia Castle and you can level up super quick. Pahn, Viktor, and Flik were my other three favorites because I love physical attackers and they are strong. I used Cleo and Gremio when I could, and also Kirkis. However, I hear Clive and Pesmerga are great too. Luc could be useful as a healer, as well. -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*--*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*--*-*-* [ 4.0 ] WALKTHROUGH -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*--*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*--*-*-* I try to avoid spoilers whenever possible in my walkthroughs, since I think it's a waste of typing to type up scenes you will see, and plus it's annoying to see spoilers in a walkthrough sometimes. However, unfortunately I cannot always avoid them, especially in a game like this. I will try my best, however. ============================================================================= [ OPENING OF THE GAME ] Gregminster [3/108 STARS OF DESTINY ] ============================================================================= CHECKLIST: [ ] Hero (1/108) [ ] Gremio (2/108) [ ] Cleo (3/108) ============================================================================= Watch the opening scenes and talk to Teo. When you have an option, select either choice and you will have someone assigned to watch over you. (He's a jackass though.) Once you regain control of the Hero, go east, north, east, and then south to the staircase. Go down the stairs, then go east and south. You will be told to introduce yourself to the guy who is assigned to watch over you, Commander Kraze, so let's do that. Go left and talk to Kraze. Nice guy, huh? Go back and talk to Teo and he will tell you to go home, so let's do so. It's the first house south of the castle, so leave the castle and simply go south. Go inside the house and you'll meet Gremio for the first time. Watch the scenes then go to the second floor and enter the first room to the west. When given an option, choose the first one, then watch some more scenes. When it's time to eat dinner, sit in the chair next to Teo. After these scenes, you'll gain two characters, Pahn and Cleo. Both are incredibly useful throughout the game. Pahn is a kick ass martial artist with high attack power and HP. Cleo is a good back range attacker that can also be uuite proficient with magic, so make sure to give her a good rune when the time comes. You'll also have Gremio and Ted for the time being. Gremio can go in either row, Ted goes in the back. You can head out of the town now if you want in order to gain some money and levels. I did this in order to afford some weapon upgrades and better armor but you really don't have to. Keep in mind to at least look at the stuff to buy in town. Later on in the game, you can recruit an armor seller who will sell any armor you looked at during the game, including the stuff in this town. And you won't be able to buy it anywhere else after this. Go back into the castle when you are ready, then talk to Kraze to get your first assignment. Select the first option when asked, then go to the dragon stable after this. Go outside the castle, watch the scene, then go all the way right to get to the stable. The guy here will take you on the dfagon to your first dungeon of the game. ============================================================================= [ FIRST DUNGEON ] Magician's Island [ 3/108 STARS OF DESTINY ] ============================================================================= CHECKLIST: [ [ None BOSSES: Golem ============================================================================= The dungeons in Suikoden really aren't that complicated. They're mostly straight paths with the occasional fork that leads to a treasure. Follow the first screen to the next area, then go northwest to get a MEDICINE from the chest. Go northeast to the next screen, then at the path, go northeast for the LEATHER COAT. Go back to the forth, then take the northwestern path to get to the first boss of the game. --------------------------------------------- BOSS !!!!! Golem !!!!! BOSS --------------------------------------------- This is not one of the hardest bosses in the world. Golem only has afew basic attacks and none of them hit for too many damage. You can always use a Medicine or two if you have to. Attack wise, Hero should attack, Cleo should attack, Ted should attack, and Pahn and Gremio should use their Unite attack to do some serious damage to the boss. He should go down in a few rounds. ---------------------------------------------- After this boss, watch the scenes and follow the kid into the tower. Take the path to the top of the tower, then watch the scene to get the ASTRAL CONCLUSIONS from the lady. Leave the room, watch some more scenes, and you'll be back in Gregminster. Talk to Commander Kraze again, and you'll get your next goal (go east to a town called Rockland; there's apparently tax thieves there.) as well as another temporary party member. Now, you can go to Rockland, but first go to the weapon/armor shop and upgrade as much as you can. Give the Fire Crystal to Cleo. Now, you should be good to go.
