| Penelope Face au silence du monde (Union 2112) This album came out late last year, but it really bears mention again. Why? Because it's the best rock punk album to come out of Quebec in years. One listen (or 10 or 20 in my case) to the lead-off track Face au silence du monde should be more than enough to convince you that this is the real deal. If the skeptic in your demands more than that, look no further than the credits: Dave Smalley (All, Down By Law, Dag Nasty) produced the album at the famed Inner Ear Studios in Washington D.C., as well as practiced his singing (in French) on seven of the tracks and, and guitarist Brian Baker (Bad Religion, Minor Threat) played on three of them as well. They were nominated for a MIMI on the strenght of songs like Pawn Shop (the first video) and La dbandade (like Face to Face circa Big Choice, which is better than FTF can manage these days). Pick this up now, love me later. |
