Allie won't go out at night without Rodrigo, so I bring Andy along so he can talk to Rodrigo and I can talk to Allie, or I can talk to Andy while Allie's drooling over Rodrigo in the back seat.We pick them up and go to a cafe. Allie and Rodrigo want to play this game where one person names three actors or actresses and everyone else has to guess what movie they're in. Allie thinks Rodrigo is a genius because he can stump everyone. Andy and I are losing because we don't even know who the people are, let alone what movie they're in together. I keep getting up to do stuff -- bathroom, extra silverware, napkins -- so I don't have to witness Allie sinking to the level of film-school games at dinner. When it's my turn, I say, "Maureen McCormick, Eve Plumb, and Susan Olsen."
Allie tells me The Brady Bunch doesn't count, and I'm ruining the game, and then she apologizes to Rodrigo.
Andy asks Rodrigo why he wants to make films. This gets Rodrigo talking and I want to hug Andy for sidetracking the game. Rodrigo says he likes films because of the editing room: "You can make something out of nothing," he says. "You can lie."
I tune out for the rest of the speech. I take an olive off Allie's plate, and she glares at me like I'm the most ill mannered person in the world, and then she sweet-as-can-be offers Rodrigo some olives.
We drop Allie and Rodrigo off at Rodrigo's apartment. I get out of the car to let them out of the back seat. Then I lift up my shirt. No bra.
