Month Eight: Your InstinctsYou will be sure your baby will be early. You will not pay heed to the dark, looming statistic that most first babies are late. You will say you were very active during pregnancy, and very active mothers deliver early. You will not pay heed to the research that specifies "very active" as hunting for lions in Africa or building clapboard houses with just your hands and a saw. You will get a date in your head, some time that is a month too early, and you will be sure the baby is coming. At one minute past midnight on your date you will cry. You will hate your body. You will hate the baby. You will not be able to go on. Your husband will comfort you. He will think, but not say, that he also cannot go on. He will worry that you really do hate the baby. He will think of Andrea Yates and her five dead kids and suddenly he will not feel like Andrea's husband was an idiot for not seeing the problem sooner and stopping it.  Month Nine: Your Labor |
