| September 6th: Just an update. Poor Gregg was going on a sponsor flight at the Illinois River Balloon Festival in Tahlequah, OK, the weekend after Ballon Fest and ran into some unfortunate problems. Like I said, ballooning can be a dangerous sport, and this is one instance that even though things were completly as they should be, freak incidents came up. They were no more than 15 feet off the ground when a wind gust threw them back into the ground. They hit and bounced up and down for a while, being banged up and thrown around, until the basket finally stayed on the ground. At this point though, a balloonist's worst nightmare came true for that crew... The envelope layed over on the power lines they were next to. As far as I have heard, no one was seriously injured, just really shaken up and lots of damage done to the balloon, as you can imagine. I'll keep you posted as I learn more, I'm waiting for a responce from our Crew Cheif.! |
