REGULAR WORSHIP TIMES BEGIN Beginning Sunday, September 1 our adult Sunday school time and the kid�s breakfast time returns to 9:45 a.m.� Our morning worship time goes back to 10:45 a.m.� Children 3 years old through 12th grade will continue to be dismissed during the worship service for their Sunday school classes.� (On the 1st and 2nd Sundays 6-12th graders will remain in the sanctuary, being dismissed on the 3rd and 4th Sundays only.)� We hope you enjoyed the summer worship schedule.   MID-WEEK PROGRAMS RETURN! v     Beginning September 4, our Wednesday night kid�s program resumes with a �back-to-school� celebration at 7 p.m.!� v     The adults will meet in the parlor in Bible study with Pastor Rick at 7 p.m.� (Nursery care is available with our nursery attendant, Janette Ingle.) v     All high schoolers will continue in the youth room with Pastor Joseph at 7 p.m..� v     Our middle school students also continue on Sunday evenings at 6 p.m.�   SEPTEMBER MEETINGS Church Council, Monday, Sept. 16, 10 a.m. Board of Trustees, Tuesday, Sept.17, 7 pm Evangelism Comm., Thurs., Sept. 19, 7 pm Music Comm., Monday, Sept. 30, 6:30 pm   ROUND-UP FOOD BOOTH Our rodeo food booth will have a new menu this year.� We will be selling kettle korn and Coke beverages.� Pastor Joseph will be scheduling youth and adults to work Sept. 10-14, 8:30am-1 pm and 1 pm-5:30 pm. �Give Pastor Joseph (276-1894) a call and get a convenient time for your schedule before someone else gets it!!!!     ROUND-UP SUNDAY The third annual outdoor Round-Up Sunday Community Worship Celebration is Sept. 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pendleton High School football field/track area.� This year�s service will include members of nine different churches uniting in Christian fellowship, reaching out to the Pendleton community. Guest speaker is Jay Barber, president of Warner Pacific College in Portland.� Parking at PHS is plentiful and shuttle vans will be available to the far reaches of the lot.� Also on hand will be golf carts to help those who may not be able to walk up onto the field. Bring your lawn chairs, hats, umbrellas, sunscreen, etc.� If it is sunny, shade will be at a premium. This year�s service includes: �      Middle and high school youth will attend a dramatic/musical presentation by �Generation Ablaze� from Walla Walla in the auditorium at 10:30 a.m.� �      Kid�s Church at the old �gold� gym at 10:30 a.m. (doors will open at 10:15) for kindergartners through 5th grade (preschoolers welcome with a parent).� �      Free barbecue lunch following the services along with a musical presentation by the Parker Sisters.   CARPET PROJECT The carpeting in the upstairs educational wing of the church has almost been completed.� There are a few finishing touches to be done, which will be soon.� We continue to make headway on paying for it, but have not achieved that yet!� If you would like to make a donation to the carpeting project, just mark �carpet� on your check or envelope.� We appreciate everyone who has donated to this goal.   2003 BUDGETS DUE Chairs of boards and committees�your 2003 budgets are due before Sept. 17!   VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH Our spotlight for September is on Lynda Dunlap, who has served in many, many different ways throughout the past years.� She has served on the Fellowship Committee and Board of Trustees as well as being Treasurer of Disbursements.� Lynda also is a current member of our worship team and has always participated in special musical programs and choirs.� For several years she folded the Sunday bulletins and continues to take care of our decorating throughout the church.� She is busy each spring and summer with the front flower beds and tends our indoor plants all year.�� It is thanks to Lynda that our Sunday coffee is hot and ready to go each week and her delicious desserts have quite a reputation.� Lynda is retired from the U.S. Forest Service and is currently working in the cafeteria at Sunridge Middle School & enjoys having her mother, Lorna Borman, living with her here in Pendleton.     LADIES BIBLE STUDY UDPATE Our current ladies Bible study, �Becoming a Vessel God Can Use� will resume� beginning Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. and continuing each Tuesday after that. This study took a summer vacation and will pick up where they left off.� If you would like to join this study, workbooks can be ordered now.� Contact Anita in the church office; the cost is $9.   PRAYER� CONCERNS If you are not on our �e-mail� prayer chain and want to be, contact the church office with your e-mail address. Kathi Zollman-Pray for her as she begins chemo treatments for a very aggressive form of breast cancer that has also invaded her lymph nodes. Bill Johnson-Pray for Bill, son of the late LaVelle Bennett, who has inoperable cancer and has been hospitalized in Portland. Debbie Oliver-Pray for co-worker Teresa Kelly whose infant granddaughter is fighting a malignancy that is spreading throughout her body. Steve & Elaine Hart-Pray for 3 year old Landon, who had his tonsils out recently. Dave & Carol Fitzsimmons-Pray for their children, Berta & Mel, as they prepare to begin classes at Mt. Hood CC and get used to new living arrangements, roommates and jobs.   PENDLETON AFTER 5 All ladies are invited to Pendleton After 5�s Sept. 9 meeting �Way Out West� at 6:30 p.m. at the Vert Clubroom, 345 S.W. 4th. The special feature will be a mini-concert by Debbie Rudd.� Guest speaker is Betty Ann McIrvin.� The dinner & program is only $5.75.� Call Vicki at 276-3947 (chambers@oregon trail.net) or Verna at 276-7110, by Friday, Sept. �9 for reservations.�   JOB OPPORTUNITIES A Bible study held in the parlor each Tuesday morning, 9-11 a.m. beginning Sept. 17th is looking for a childcare attendant.� �Joy in the Morning� ladies will pay $20 per Tuesday; contact Tammy Short, 276-5644.� A background check will be done. Pendleton Pregnancy Care Services is looking for a director; 20 hours per week; start date Oct. 1.� See bulletin board for job description and other details.   BOARD OF TRUSTEES NEWS The Board of Trustees is making plans to sell the church van.� For reasons of safety, economy and the need for more room, they will be looking for a mini-bus in the future.� The Board is taking a proactive position addressing congregation members� safety concerns regarding 15-passenger vans.� Wanting to be sensitive to this important issue, it will be pursuing alternative vehicles for church use. Our van will be listed for sale in various local venues.� It is a 1994 Dodge 15 passenger extended van; 65,000 miles, new transmission, well-maintained and in good condition.� It has dual heat/air; tilt wheel; am/fm radio/cassette; 4 mounted, studded snow tires.�� The Board is also looking into installing central gas heat/air, which will be reflected in the 2003 budget.� This has been a long-standing need that needs to be addressed.� With the needs of the congregation and the growth of the church, the Board feels the time is now.� Respectively submitted, Len Shupe, Chair   SOUP & BREAD LUNCH On Sunday Sept. 22 the Fellowship Committee will serve a soup and bread lunch immediately following the worship service.� Homemade cookies will also be served.� Cost is $1 per person.� Friends are welcome!� EVERYONE is encouraged to stay and share in a meal together.� If you never have done this before, we guarantee you�ll be glad you did.� We�ve got some great cooks!   KITCHEN NEEDS The Fellowship Committee is requesting donations of the following supplies: Paper/styrofoam plates, cups, napkins, plastic spoons, dishwashing liquid & powder, syrup, frozen juice concentrates, and coffee.� These can be dropped off in the kitchen any time.         CLASSIFIEDS If you have something to buy, sell, trade or give away, use the �Love Note Classifieds.�� Contact the church office. Pastor Keven Dickerman and Darcy Rooman were married Saturday, August 31� at the Olympia-Lacy COG.� We wish them the best as they make their home in Reedsport. REMODELING BEGINS Jim Phelps, chair of the Maintenance Committee, is looking for helpers as a remodeling project begins.
