Round-Up Sunday will be here this Sunday, Sept. 9. This year we are including a community worship celebration beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Pendleton High School football field/track area. Several area churches have joined together to provide our community a time of worship and praise, striving to further God’s kingdom in our city of Pendleton.
An inspiring worship service has been planned that will include wonderful music led by worship teams comprised of people from several different churches. They will unite the congregation’s voices into one glorious choir that we hope will be heard throughout the city. Guest speaker Gerald Marvel, retired Church of God Pastor from Vancouver, Washington, will present a message in his unique and warm, down-home way. If you have never heard Pastor Marvel speak, this will be a treat in itself.
Please be sure to bring lawn chairs, blankets, etc. as no formal seating will be available other than the grass. In case of inclement weather, this service will be held in the newer "green" gym. Free parking will be available on the high school grounds (and West Hills School) with shuttles provided from the far reaches of the parking lots to the track area. Once you have parked, gather near the front entrance of the high school; within a few minutes a van shuttle will be by. Golf carts are available for those who may not be able to get into the van.
All middle & high school youth are invited to attend their own service in the Pendleton High School auditorium at 10:30 a.m.. Dynamic speaker Isaac Maddox will be on hand as well as the Refuge band in a great teen worship. Area youth pastors have worked to put together a service that will provide a meaningful time for all students to join together in worshipping God.
Following both services, the Gospel Sons will take center stage and again present their familiar smooth style of southern Gospel music that has become such a part of our Round-Up Sunday tradition. (Watch for them in the Dress-Up Parade at 10 a.m. on Sept. 8.)
Immediately following the worship celebration and while the Gospel Sons are in concert, a tasty fried chicken lunch will be served. For $2.50 per person you will get 2 pieces of chicken, a choice of 3 salads, roll and a beverage. Everyone is encouraged to stay for lunch and enjoy the fellowship of "breaking bread" together. If you haven’t purchased your lunch tickets yet and are planning to attend, please contact the church office as soon as possible. We want to be sure we have enough food for everyone!
As the Christian community joins together as one, it is imperative that this event be what God wants it to be. With this in mind, a 48-hour prayer vigil has been organized. Individuals will begin praying on Thursday, Sept. 6 at and will continue in one-hour blocks for 48 hours, ending on Friday, Sept. 7 at midnight. If you would like to take part in this prayer time and did not sign up for a one-hour slot, we hope you can take a few minutes in the next day or two and help cover this important event with prayer. We encourage families to gather together for a few minutes and prayer together.
As the time draws near and the details, big and small, begin to come together we can’t help but feel that God’s hand is upon us, guiding us for His glory. We pray that each and every one of you will truly be blessed for attending this unique celebration of worship. It is an exciting time and we look forward to seeing you there. But most of all, we look forward to the city of Pendleton uniting under one loving and glorious God!
