Meet Joseph Jurado

A delicious breakfast buffet is planned for Sunday, August 19 at 9:45 a.m. downstairs. Everyone is invited to come enjoy biscuits and gravy, fruit waffles, scrambled eggs and fruit. We will take this time together to wish Bryan, Cindy and Brandee Vanhoff the best as they prepare to move to the Spokane area. Daughter Ashlee is working as a nanny in Connecticut this summer and will continue her college studies as a junior at Oregon State University in the fall. Bryan has served most recently as Disbursements Treasurer and has been a member of the Board of Trustees for several years. Cindy has been involved with our Christian Education program in many different capacities including Sunday school, children's church, VBS, mid-week and nursery duty. Brandee was active in the youth group and served for one year as a volunteer intern in the church office. We will miss them but we know that the Lord has great things in store for their future.
The Board of Christian Education would like to announce that the breakfast program on Sunday mornings at 9:45 a.m. will continue for 3 year olds through 12th grade. It has been a success throughout the summer months. Sunday school for those age groups will also continue to dismiss during our morning worship service. Our classes have really grown since this change has been made and we are happy to continue with this program. If you would like the pleasure of helping with the breakfast time, contact Teri Brickey, 966-6962. We really do need more people to step up to the "plate" and help in this area. Just think what a privilege it is to do God's work while helping with our children. Can you volunteer 1/2 hour of your schedule?
SUMMER
INTERN JOINS STAFF
It is our pleasure to introduce Joseph Jurado, who will be leading our youth in a summer internship. Joseph, from the Portland area and a graduate of Warner Pacific, is originally from Southern California, where his parents still reside. Joseph was just a youngster when Pastor Rick was a youth pastor at Joseph's church in Torrance, CA. We hope you will take a minute to introduce yourself to Joseph and welcome him to Eastern Oregon. Joseph is currently staying with Dennis & Kathleen O'Hara. Read more about Joseph on the youth page of this newsletter. (If you have a youth-age student, please be sure they see this page.)

This much awaited time is almost here. Promotion Sunday will be Sunday, August 26at 9:45 a.m. in the sanctuary. Everyone will meet to celebrate the passage of some of our students into their new classes. It also heralds the start of a "new year" in the life of our Sunday school program. Our Sunday school classes are as follows:
* 3, 4, 5 year olds
* kindergarten through 3rd grade
* 4th, 5th , 6th , grade
* 7th-12th grades (youth)
* Adults
An important transition are students going into the 7th grade. They are now officially a part of our youth group and will enjoy all the perks and extras that this entails. They can now begin to attend our youth mid-week program in the youth room, too.
Following the Promotion Sunday "service" breakfast will be served downstairs for the children/students and adults will go to their regular classes.
An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory.

Our wonderful new roof looks great and has been given the test of some very wet rain. The total cost of this project was over $8,000 and we have only received a little over $2,000. A thermometer showing where we stand in taking care of this expense is posted in the entryway. If you would like to contribute to this cause, be sure to specify on your envelope or check "roof" and your donation will go to taking care of this necessary expense. Of course, your donation is always tax deductible.
