HANGING OF THE GREENS AND
AN OLD FASHIONED CHRISTMAS

As the Christmas holiday season
approaches, we prepare for this holy time of peace and love. One
of these traditions include our "Hanging of the Greens" and "An Old
Fashioned Christmas" on Sunday, Dec.
7th at 5 pm. The service will include decorating the
sanctuary with the colors, sights, sounds and traditions of Christmas's
through the ages. Dress casually and bring a friend or neighbor
to enjoy the carolas, candlelight and good cheer. Following the
service we will have a light supper downstairs and tables set with
several different types of Christmas crafts for everyone to make,
children-youth-adults. Pastor Joseph will head up the sugar
cookie decorating table. Donations will be accepted to help cover
the cost of the craft materials. We hope you will attend this fun
evening that begins the Advent season in the spirit of Jesus as we
celebrate His birth.
We won't be doing the sugar tree as origianlly planned due to technical
difficulties with it but you can contact Anita if you want plain sugar
cookies in a certain shape, then go to Joseph's table at the hanging of
the greens time and decorate a cookie. Come anyway and just
decorate a cookie.
We are gathering cookies, candies and snack items to send to students and military away from home. Drop off donations by Sunday, Nov. 30 in the church office. We have approx. 20 to send out and need many items. Our students really look forward to this support from their church family though-out finals, etc.
Our annual business meeting was held Sunday, Nov. 2 and teh following leadership positions and budget were ratified:

Donations are now being accepted (food items and money ) for Christmas food baskets for those in need without our congregation. In the entryway will be a large Christmas wrapped box in which you may include anything for a holiday dinner or regular dinner items -- we can use it all. Cash donations may be made by marking on the check of envelope specifically for food baskets and placing in the offering any Sunday. Items needed include: stuffing mix, canned veggies, olives, rice, cranberry sauce, potatoes, Dream Whip mix, miniature marshmallows, soup, green salad dressing, jam/jelly, etc. Perishable items like meats, fresh fruits, pies, rolls, butter, etc. will be purchased within one day of the basket delivery. We hope you can help make someone's holiday extra special.
It's been almost three years since we published a church pictoral directory. We've scheduled pictures to be taken December 17 and 18 (3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each day) here at the church. Tamara Pahl, coordinator, is hoping for 100% participation. By having your portrait taken you (each family or individual) will receive one free 8 X 10, a free directory and the chance to order additional pictures. The "phone committee" will be contacting you soon for an appointment. We hope you will be ready to schedule! By having your picture in the directory, you are helping others get to know you.

The church council announces
that new hours will begin Sunday,
January 4. Adult Sunday School and the kid's breakfast
club will begin at 9:30 a.m. and morning worship service will begin at
10:30 a.m. This time will be permanent, with no time changes in
the summer.
The Children's Christmas Program will be Sunday, Dec. 14 during the morning worship service. Their final practice will be Saturday, Dec. 13, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. You won't want to miss our children perform what they've been practicing for weeks.
An evening Christmas program will be held Sunday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. in our santuary. We are joining with the Nazarene Church to present a holiday program that we know you will enjoy. Childcare will be provided for children under 3 years. This program includes several songs by the Parker Sisters, solos by Pastor Ron and Pastor Rick, special readings, instrumentals, Christmas carols and more! Following the presentation, cider and cookies will be served. We hope everyone can agttend this specially planned program.

Please report meeting times to the church office so they can be recorded on the calendar and announced.

The traditional Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion Service will be Sun., Dec., 24 between 3 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. in the sanctuary. Drop in at your convenience as the sanctuary is bathed in candlelight and soft Christmas music. This is an informal but reverant time to remember the "REASON FOR THE SEASON"
As the Christmas holiday approaches, the details of life seems to almost get out of the control. To ease the stress, here's a great suggestion. Observe St. Thomas Day on Dec. 21. Use this day as a goal to finish those extra holiday chores. That leaves 3 days to enjoy freiends, family and concentrate on the spiritual aspect of this holy day.
Poinsettias are traditionally used in our Christmas decorations in the sanctuary. If you would like to help provide them, you may donate $5 and purchase one in memory or celebration of a loved one. Each Sunday in Advent there will be a bulletin insert listing your name (it can also be anonymous) and your loved one. Poinsettias will be placed in the sanctuary on Dec. 7 during our "Hanging of the Greens" service and may be picked up after church on Sunday, Dec. 21
I would like to congratulate everyone on our giving to the church in 2003. For the entire year we have continued to remain close to our budget. This is a great accomplishment, showing faith and generosity of our members. We are nearing the end of the year and I would like to encourage all of you to give generously for the remainder of the year so we can exceed our budgeted income. If we can accomplish this goal, I believe it will have a positive impact on our church, helping all those involved to make our work for God more effective. -- Robert Pahl, Treasurer

"God's Touch ... Loving, Living, Lasting," is the theme of the 2003 Christ's Birthday Offering sponsored by Women of the Church of God, Anderson, Indiana. This annual offering goes to many projects in the U.S. as well as abroad: our missionaries, colleges and university, Christian education and needy clergy families. A good giving guideline suggests that we give the same amount as the most expensive gift we give. Contact the church office to get a giving envelope especially for this offering, which will be taken Dec. 14.
A baby shower will be held for Karen Schlatzlein and her new baby daughter, Anna Marie, on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. All ladies are invited to celebrate this newest member of our church family. We would like to congratulate Karen and her husband Scott, along with big brother, Kevin and big sister, Elizabeth on the arrival of Anna.

"Tis the Season to be Jolly" is the theme of Pendleton After 5's Dec. 8 meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Vert Clubroom, S.W. 4th Street. The special feature is the gift store Seasons with owner/operator, Julia McLaughlin. Niki Davis from Clatskanie is the guest speaker - a home schooler of six children, who "Views Life as a Classroom." Cost is only $4.50. Contact Verna at 276-7110 or Vickie at 276-3947. All ladies are invited for this great evening out!
