Fond Nicknames for the
Washington & Old Dominion Railroad

The first thing you have to understand is that while the residents of Northern
Virginia loved their railroad, they didn't always love the way it was run.  There
were problems with overcrowded passenger cars, late trains, unheated stations
and  freight cars that sat for days without being delivered.

This certainly wasn't always the case, but after the railway  was electrified in
1912, it wasn't always able to keep up with the amount of business it received.  Lack
of capital investment in equipment and labor conflicts led to a string  of complaints.

The following names were coined by those souls who became used to the
eccentricities of the W&OD.  Email me if you know any others.
