Patrick Kendrick was a patriot and fought as a private in the Revolut ionary War, from the state of Virginia. The Scotch Irish Patrick Kendrick family were fruitful, progressive pioneers in eastern Russell County. Patrick I b. ca 1725 in Overton(sic) (undoubtedly Overwharton Parish), Stafford County was s/o Thomas and Marion Kendrick, Scots farmers.
In 1785 Patrick and Jane and grandchildren moved to Russell County. Patrick I and Jane settled in Clinch Valley near present Raven.
Their daughter Isabel and John HORTON located on a tributary of Maiden Spring near the community college.
Other daughters: Jane m. John Lock, Frances m Ritchie (oly one name given ), Rachel m. Daniel Johnson.
Mary ( Molly) the oldest child m William HORTON, brother of John. The William HORTON family did not accompany their relatives to Russell County in 1785. (See pioneer Mary Horton ) I take this to be a reference to another entry in this same reference )
Patrick I and his sons: Patrick II, George and William were active in the development of the remote backwoods region. Very little mention is made of James, the youngest son."
The above quotes are from "The Heritage of Russell County, VA 1786-1886, Vol. 1
The Patrick Peyton KENDRICK family moved to SW Va before 1785. Washington Co., VA Court records show:
26 Nov 1777 "Ordered that Patrick KINDRICK be summoned to appear at next Court to shew cause why he does not administer on the Estate of his son James KENDRICK"
James having died early on is probably the reason nothing is found on him. Patrick died by Sept 1803. Patrick and Jane Kendrick, lived in Stafford County near George Washington's boyhood home.

--Oct. 22, 1792 The Confession of John Young who was executed near this Town, on the 9Oct1792 for Horsestealing.: I John Young, was born in Baltimore county, Maryland; my father occupied a small farm. He died when I was about 20 and my mother when I was about 16 years of age. A short time before my mother's death, I enlisted for a soldier to go against the Indians, but deserted. Mr. John DORSEY cleared me of this transaction, and I served him faithfully two months for so doing. After my mother's death, I thought myself too much of a man to obey my father's commands, and he breaking up housekeeping, I quitted Maryland and came to Virginia. I hired myself to Mr. Thomas RUTHERFORD, of Berkeley county, and continued in his employ until I married. I afterwards lived 3 or 4 years on a part of Robert SHIRLEY 's lands - then on Jarvis SHIRLEY 's lands 9 or 10 years, during all which time I behaved myself like an honest industrious citizen. i then moved to a place adjoining the late General Lee 's plantation, where I continued two years. From thence I went to Roan county, North Carolina, where I unfortunately got acquainted with John M'Kee and George BROWN. By this connexion I was led to forsake the paths of honesty -- Brown stealing two horses from one FRY , living on the river ADKIN , in said county, I was privy thereto, and received a part of the money BROWN sold said horses for. I was suspected as Brown 's accomplice , and fearful of being apprehended, I thougt it most fate for me to quit that country. I accordingly went from thence and took my abode near Hancock - town Maryland, where I continued about twelve months , about the expiration of this period, I was apprehended and committed to Fredcericktown gaol, on suspicion of stealing a mare - this I most solemnly declare I was innocent of -- I, however, broke goal and made my escape. I afterwards moved with my family into Orange county, Virginia, worked hard, behaved honestly, and purchaed a plantation. In the 4th year got into loose company, and to support my idleness and profigacy purchased a horse on credit from a Capt. Wright, finding myself unable to pay for him at the appointed time, I stole a mare from the widow SCROGHAM, which I disposed of to raise the money. It is some consolation to me, in my present unhappy situation, to know that the woman got her mare again. I am sorry to say that I continued the shameful practice of stealing horses after this time, among the rest I took a mare from Mr. DAVIS of Orange, but he has recovered her again. Being closely pursued for the last mentioned offence, after crossing Shenandoah river, I took to the woods, where I remained three days without tasting any food. I wished to make the best speed I could to my wife, which coccassioned me to take Mr. MERCER 's horse, for which I am now to suffer - but I solemnly declare that I intended to return him, as soon as I had adjusted matters at home. I also stole a young sorrel horse from Henry MILLER, of Berkely county, a little before last harvest, and one from a Mr. KENDRICK, on Shenandoah river. I sold both these horses in Petersburg, and Mr. RICHARDS, cryer of that town, can tell to whom they were sold. Many other horses that have been stolen, and other things laid to my charge, I solemnly declare myself innocent of. **** CHRONICLES OF THE SCOTCH-IRISH SETTLEMENT OF VIRGINIA; Vol 2, by Lyman Chalkley:: http://www.rootsweb.com/~chalkley

Frances Weaver (a Menonist) deposes 01Mar1794 in Stephensburg, Frederick Co., that Elizabeth was born in Wedlock. Mary was sister of Frances' late husband. John Smith was a blacksmith and lived afterwards in Frederick.
William Allen and Rachel, his wife, vs. Kindrick--O. S. 94; N. S. 32--Bill, 2d August, 1805. Rachel is daughter of John Kindrick, late of Washington County. She and William were married in 177_, and lived in Botetourt until 1782, when John came and invited them to come to Washington, where he promised them a piece of land, for which they sue. Rachel had a brother, John. John Kendrick, Sr., died 1800 or 1801, intestate, leaving a large family, which descended to Thomas and John Kendrick, Mary Kendrick, who married John Burks, and Rachel.
Hobbs vs. Hobbs--O. S. 103; N. S. 35--Bill, 2d August, 1805. Orator is James Hobbs. In 1773, orator made a settlement in Washington County, on North Fork of Holston, but left it for some time, during which he was considered dead, but returned and found that his father, Vincent Hobbs, had sold to William Williams. Orator enlisted in a company to go against the Indians, and was on the frontier 21 years, during which time Williams had sold to John Kindrick. John completed his title and died, leaving Thomas Kindrick, Jno. Kindrick, Jno. Burks and Mary, his wife, William Allen and Rachel, his wife, and Elizabeth Kindrick, widow.
The Patrick Peyton KENDRICK family moved to SW Va before 1785. Washington Co., VA Court records show: 26 Nov 1777 "Ordered that Patrick KINDRICK be summoned to appear at next Court to shew cause why he does not administer on the Estate of his son James KENDRICK" James having died early on is probably the reason nothing is found on him. Patrick died by Sept 1803.
Even though William HORTON and his wife did not accompany the rest of the migration west from Stafford Co. VA, William did visit and plan to move there but died before the move. Mary "Molly" KENDRICK Horton did move to the Russell Co., VA area. Their son Lewis HORTON was killed by Abner VANCE in 1817. There were two trials for VANCE and he was eventually hanged in Washington Co., Va in 1819.
I don't believe Frances KENDRICK was ever married to the RITCHIE. I can't find it right now, but I previously made a note that murder charges were dropped against Frances KINDRICK in regard to the death of her baseborn child. And then later, Samuel RITCHIE's will dated 16 Dec 1818 Scott Co., VA says:
"....to friend Frances KINDRICK, 290 acres land" she was also given $200. And then "1/6 part of the residue of Samuel's estate to her heirs and assigns forever"
