       In a fast changing world, man will face numerous challenges in life. As such, competent leaders are needed to shape and transform nations into productive, wealthy and harmonious place to live in. We need leaders like Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad, our ex-prime minister, who has great visions and passion for our country. It is through strong foundation in leadership principles that strong leaders like him are produced. A country without competent workforce will also become a stumbling block to the nation’s development. With the uprising of great giants like China, the only way of survival for Malaysia is to produce more superior workforce with great technical abilities as well as excellent characters to bolster the nation’s progress.

       Institutes of higher learning such as Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) must spring up to become major hub in producing excellent graduates that are able to spur development in our country. Graduates should not only possess academic expertise, but must also be equipped with a strong sense of self-motivation, discipline, confidence and competence. Without these qualities, having expertise in possession would only prove to be futile.

      As part of the effort in nation building campaign, Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) is organizing a leadership and motivational camp that prepares undergraduates with the essential skills and knowledge. This programme known as PELTAC (Professional Engineering Leadership, Teamwork and Awareness Camp) was made possible with a group of willing and initiative undergraduates in UTM. PELTAC is an annual student programme and was first organized in 1998. As of date, six PELTAC camps have been successfully organized in UTM. Now, PELTAC is the leading leadership and motivational camp in UTM.
