What vampires do when they're bored
There where not many times in Spike's death when he'd been scared but right now he was petrified. Spike sat cross-legged on a chair in his room a mobile phone in his hands totally incapable of movement.
The factory was nearly empty and the night was young Spike should have been out with the others hunting. Instead he was sat in his room the door locked. Spikes keys were clearly visible next to a bottle of holy water on the dresser by the door. The only thing that was stopping Spike from getting up and leaving as normal was that situated directly between Spike and the door was one of the largest, ugliest, hairiest, most disgusting spiders Spike had ever seen!
It hadn't moved since it had descended from the ceiling -causing Spike even more worry of spiders attacking from above. He really did wish Dru was around sometimes, normally when spiders were involved. Dru had never worked out or else never let on that she knew about Spikes arachnophobia.
When Dru was still with him all Spike had to do to get rid of any offending creepy crawly things of the eight legged variety was to mention to Dru that he'd seen one and she'd have a hold of it, taking pleasure in pulling off its legs one at a time, like a little kid. She said she could hear the spider scream said it sounded like 'crying stars'. But then Dru did have problems.
Abbie was the only one who Spike had confided in before the slayer as to his fear. Spike wouldn't have thought that Abbie would have been so understanding about it but it was kind of a lightweight secret of his compared to those she already knew. Abbie and he used to kill spiders together. It was not something Spike had been sure about when Abbie had suggested they passed the time by killing spiders, but he smiled when he found she had devised a hands free method.
Abbie would catch two spiders and put them in a jar. She and Spike would then watch them kill each other and place bets on which one would win. He and Abbie passed many sleepless days and rainy nights lying on the floor side by side killing spiders. Spike found that it was the only way that he could stay in close proximity to a spider without screaming like a girl and running away.
Each vampire has its own patented way of killing spiders. Angels way was as cruel with the spiders as he was with everything else. Spiders may be simple beings with only a central nervous system and reactions but Angel still liked the idea of scaring them shitless, he didn't care to know whether or not it was working.
Angel would draw a little circle in the ground with kerosene and put the spider in the center watching as it went mad trying to find a way out of the circle and the heat. Sometimes if the spider was small it'd curl up and die straight away but when the spider was bigger he could keep it running around for about 10 minutes before it died.
Darla was an oddity among vampires. She never tried to kill spiders she kept them like pets. She named them talk to them and even catch live flies for them. Spike seemed to remember Darla had problems too. Every now and again when spiders were hard to find they would take one or two of Darla's. Her hobby was one of the many reasons that Spike wouldn't go into Darla's room.
Spike finally found the courage to move he dialed a number quickly and held the mobile to his ear. "Buffy?" He whispered. "Could you come over to the factory please?" The spider chose this time to move beginning slowly to stalk in Spikes direction. "NOW!"
