Sean Bean was born Shaun Mark Bean on April 17, 1959 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. He has a younger sister, Lorraine. Sean is 5’11” with dark blonde hair and green eyes and has a scar above his left eye. This was a souvenir he received from Harrison Ford during filming of the final scene in Patriot Games. Sean has 2 'O' Levels from school (Art and English), attended Rotheram College, and then won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). He also has an Honorary Doctorate from Sheffield Hallam University. His previous films, and roles he has become renown for, are as Spence in Ronin, Sean Miller in Patriot Games, Alec Trevelyan 006 in Goldeneye, Oliver Mellors in Lady Chatterley and as Richard Sharpe in the much loved Sharpe series. He also played Farmer Gray in a 90's remake of Black Beauty. The most recent films Sean has starred in are; The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Don’t Say a Word, and Essex Boys; and to be released are films Equilibrium, and Tom & Thomas and The Big Empty. Sean will also return to the stage in Oct/Nov this year in Macbeth. Sean’s other passion is football. He is a lifelong supporter of Sheffield United Football Club and has recently signed on as a member of the club’s Board of Directors. Married and divorced three times, he has three daughters, Lorna and Molly (with Melanie Hill) and Evie (with Abigail Cruttenden). Bean is also quite artistic... "I was interested in drawing and painting and I would have liked to have developed a career as an artist...but I think it's much more difficult to become an independent artist where you can paint what you like and become financially secure. I still doodle...I do a lot of things in my diary when I'm on the phone. My diary's full of pictures and sketches. If I had a bit more time I'd like to take it up again and see what I could achieve, for my own good, my own self-interest. I'd do it for my own enjoyment." (The Interview - The Compleat Sean Bean) THE LORD OF THE RINGS Sean had read The Lord of the Rings when he was younger and jumped at the chance to be a part of the movie. He re-read the trilogy during filming to help get a sense of the character. Says Bean: "I'm proud of 'The Lord of the Rings', and I want to be there to tell people to go and see it, and get behind it. I think it's a once in a lifetime role, and a once in a lifetime film. It was made with so much care and passion and meticulous detail...and everybody was so behind it. Everybody in New Zealand...all the people were involved. They loved this thing with a passion. They'd read the book, so they were experts and fanatics about it." (interview - The Compleat Sean Bean' site)
