Charleston, South Carolina, USA
I lived in Charleston, SC for just over two years. This was the last place I lived in the US before moving to Finland. I rather enjoyed living in Charleston. It was a port city. Downtown looked out into Charleston harbor. There was lots of shipping activity. Work was a nice 20 minute drive away. The people were really nice, and the city had a good nightlife.
So why would I move away from a wonderful place like this? There were a couple of reasons. First of all, I was considered a yankee. Locals, in general, do not like yankees. It was very difficult to makes new friends there. In general, people in SC get married early. This contributed to the poor dating prospects.
Secondly, the company I worked for merged with another. Things were getting hectic and more messed up. I looked around at the other shipping companies and did not see the same problems. So I figured that it was a good time to leave. Nothing against them, I was ready for a change. Now that I have been in Finland for the last 2 years, I would not mind living in Charleston again.

You can still take a horse-drawn carriage trip through the city.

The view along South Battery. A great place to walk around.

A better view of the houses along the battery.

My then girlfriend at "Charles Town Landing" state park. My classmate Erik lived there. I spent many an evening there with Erik and his family.

Here she is at a local plantation. It was destroyed during the civil war by troops from NY on my birthday. How fitting.
