Narrator: The next day.

（Allan walks toward Cozy.）

Allan: Hi, buddy. （taps him lightly on the arm）

Cozy: Ouch! That hurts!

Allan: What’s wrong? Since when have you become so “delicate”？

Cozy: You won’t believe it.

Allan: What is it? Your old man abused you. That’s new.

Cozy: What’ve happened to me is…. You won’t believe it.

Allan: (elbows Cozy) Come on. Try me.

Cozy: Well, I don’t know what’s actually happened. I found this wound when I woke up this morning. What terrifies me is that whenever I fall asleep, I have a terrible dream. In my dream, there’s always someone chasing me, like a predator hunting for its prey. And when I wake up, I’ve got wounds and bruises.

Allan: No kidding! Are you serious? (Cozy nods.) Tell me more about it. (notices someone’s coming). Hey! Look who’s coming! (Cozy turns and sees Joy.) Hi, Joy.

Joy: Hi, guys.

Allan: Well, two is company; three’s a crowd. (waves his hand and walks away)

Cozy: Nonsense. Come back here.（tries to grabs Allan but does not succeed）

Allan: Tell me more about your nightmare some other day. (disappears into the curtain)

Cozy: Hi, Joy!

Joy: You guys seem to be having fun. What’s the excitement?

Cozy: Nothing special.

（The bell rings.）

Joy: O-oh！Time for class! Let’s hurry!（grabs Cozy by the arm）

Cozy: (cries out) Ouch！

Joy: Sorry. . （looks curiously at Cozy.）I didn’t hurt you, did I?）

Cozy:（painful）No, let’s hurry to the classroom！

Joy: What happened to you? You have to let me know.

Cozy: There is something wrong. I have nightmare and wake up with wounds and bruises. It’s like someone is in my dream, trying to kill me.

Joy: Oh！Poor Cozy. Did you tell your parents about it?

Cozy: I did. They didn’t take it seriously until I showed them the wounds. They are taking me to a doctor, an expert in dealing with this sort of things. ...(hesitates) Joy, can you and Allan come with me?

Joy: I’m glad you asked. I’d like to do whatever I can to help.

Cozy: Thanks!

Narrator: In the psychiatrist’s waiting room

（Cozy waits impatiently with his parents, Joy, and Allen. Some other patients also wait there.）

Cozy: Why is it taking so long?

Mr. Jones: Be patient.

（A patient comes out from the surgery. A nurse comes out with him.）

Nurse: Next… (looks at the list of name on a board she holds in hand)）Cozy！（enters the surgery）

(Cozy appears to be nervous. Mrs. Jones holds his hand and speaks.)

Mrs. Jones: Cozy, my son. Your father and I will be with you. We will go through this together.

Joy and Allen: We are here for you too, Cozy.

Cozy: Thanks.

（All of them enter the doctor’s surgery. Cozy sits down. The doctor looks at Cozy’s personal information the nurse just handed to him.

Doctor: Er…er… (looks at the patient’s information) Cozy. Is that it?

Cozy: That’s right. I’m Cozy.

Doctor: (looks at the other persons) And these are…

Cozy: My parents…

Doctor: Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Jones (The doctor greets Cozy’s parents by shaking hands with the father and smiling at the mother) .

Cozy: And my friends, Dr. Lee. (the doctor nods at Joy and Allan)

Doctor: Call me Richard, please.（moves around while speaking）So, according to what you wrote, you feel that someone is in your dream, trying to kill you. And the next morning, you find wounds you get from the dream?

Cozy: (nods) Yes.

Doctor: Show me your wounds, will you?

Cozy: Sure.（pulls his sleeve and exposes his arm）

Doctor: You must have suffered a lot from these dreams. Tell me more details of your dreams.

Narrator: Twenty minutes later.

(Cozy’s parents’ stand with the doctor, talking to each other and Cozy chats with his friends while waiting.)

Mrs. Jones: Could you tell us what this is all about?

Doctor: (Cautiously) Well, that’s hard to say. Your son doesn’t seem to have any mental problem. I’ll give him some sleeping pills. When he falls asleep, we’ll find out whether it is just some kind of illusion, or there is really someone in his dream, hunting him. (Cozy’s parents nod.)

Mr. Jones: That’s the only way to find out. (turns to Cozy) Cozy！

Cozy: Yes. (walks toward the three)

Doctor: Cozy, we’ll try something to figure out what is harming you when you sleep.

Cozy: Please try anything…everything to get me out of this.

Doctor: We will. Now, please lie down on the bed!（Cozy lies down. The nurse attaches some wires onto his body.）

Joy: (speaks out suddenly) Cozy！(walks to Cozy and holds his hand) I’ll be here for you.

Allan: (stands beside Cozy) So will I .

Nurse: Here are the pills to help you sleep.（hands the pills and a glass of water to Cozy）

Cozy: Thanks.（takes the pills and falls into sound sleep after a while…）

Doctor: (looks at the graphs on a medical equipment detecting the activity of Cozy’s brain) That’s strange！I’ve never seen any graphs like these. His brain is far more active than other people’s during sound sleep.

Cozy: ( struggles painfully) No…no.

Doctor: Wake him up!

Cozy: Uh…(screams and falls down from the bed when struggling)

Joy: (rushes to Cozy) What happened? Are you OK?（pulls Cozy up）

Cozy:（painful）My shoulder hurts a lot.

Joy: (looks at her hands) My goodness! You are bleeding.

Cozy: It’s him again. The man wearing a black cloak and a black hat.

Doctor: Calm down. Tell me what you dreamt.

Cozy: The man was chasing me. Then he got me and stabbed me on the shoulder with a knife. I kicked him and knocked him down with a flower pot. He fainted and I ran away.

Doctor: Listen, Cozy. The only way to keep him away from you is to bring him out to the reality from your dream. So, I am afraid that I have to put you back to sleep again.

Mr. Jones: Doctor..ur..Richard, are you sure my son will be all right？

Doctor: There is some risk. But trust me. It’s the only way. (turns to Cozy)

Mrs. Jones: Be careful, son!

Allen: We’ll be here, buddy.

Doctor: (hands Cozy a knife) Now, hold this knife and imagine that you’re carrying it with you in the dream. When you complete the task or when you are in danger, just shout out “Now”. Remember, shout as loud as you can.

Cozy: All right. I got it. So see you guys later. (swallows the pills and falls into sleep)

(The waiting room is used as the scene in Cozy’s dream. The light is dark on the other side of the stage─ the surgery. The persons around the sleeping Cozy stop moving. )

Narrator: In Cozy’s dream..

Cozy: Hey, the man in black. Stop hiding. Are you afraid of me? Yes, you’re scared, aren’t you? Get out!（holds the knife in his hand and looks around cautiously）

（The man in black appears, pushes Cozy, and forces him to the ground. Cozy drops his knife when struggling to get back to his feet.）

Cozy: No！

（Cozy pushes the man off, grabs a wooden stick on the ground and hits the man hard. The man falls down unconciouss. Cozy picks up the knife and walks slowly toward the man. When he almost approaches him, the man pulls out a knife and slashes Cozy on his thigh.）

Cozy: Damn it.（Cozy falls down on the ground and crawls backward. The man approaches Cozy holding a knife in his hand. Cozy suddenly notices the knife he dropped is not far way.）

Cozy : (talks to himself) The knife! All I have to do is stab him and drag him to reality. I have to distract him (laughs and says to the man) Ha! Ha! Ha! Look who’s behind you!

（Cozy jumps up in an attempt to get the knife. The man kicks the knife away from him.）

Cozy: OK. If I have to die, I won’t die in vain!

Cozy: (shouts) Now!

（In the surgery.）

Allan: Cozy! Wake up! Wake up.（Cozy wakes up.）

Doctor: Where is he, Cozy? Did you get him?

Doctor: (points at the man in black) That’s him. (says to the man) You have finally shown up!

Allen: You..（springs up and rushes to the man’s side, trying to get hold of the man’s neck but does not succeed）

Mr. Jones: (tries to rob the man of the knife but is slashed by the man with the knife）Ouch, my face. (Cozy’s mother comes to his side and supports him with her hand.)

（The man in black hides himself under the bed. Cozy slashes the knife under the bed.）

Cozy: Go to hell!

（The man jumps out with a pillow in hand, which he uses as a shield. Cozy and the man stand still, face to face, as if they are in a duel.）

Joy: Hey! Something for you（smashes a vase against the man’s head）.

（The man turns and stares at Joy.）

Joy: (screams) Ah.. Don’t come near. Keep away from me!

(Joy grabs a book as a shield and trembles, but the man soon passes out.)

Doctor: Tie him up!

（The nurse ties him with a rope.）

Narrator: Three weeks later.

Joy: Hey, Cozy!

Cozy: Hi!

Joy: Did you sleep well last night?

Cozy: Of course. Everything went just fine.

Allan: (appears in back of Cozy) Ever since the man in black was caught, your world has turned bright, right?

Cozy: How long have you been standing behind us?

Allen: Ha! Ha! Long enough. By the way, what did they do with him?

Cozy: Strange enough. A few hours after we caught him, he melted into blood. They burned his things. His clothes, hat, cloak, and even his blood were burned!

Cozy: Don’t you try to kid me! (turns toward the tree and sees the man in black lowing the edge of his hat and leaving) No………………
