		    I N C E N S E

		     Version 1.11

		 By Peguchan Software

Welcome to Incense. In this game, you are a traveller
traveling through a dungeon. There are many ways to win
(and many endings) but the most common way to win, and
the one you should be trying to do, is get 10,000 gold
pieces. But gold is definetely not the main part of the
game. There are many puzzles and many things to do in
Incense. Also, about half of the 100 or so rooms are
totally random. And with almost all of that half, there
are a possible three things that can happen. So, when-
ever you play, it probably won't be the same as the
other times you've played. For instance, on all the
times you fight monsters and things, you can either win,
win and get injured, or die. the odds change depending
on how tough the monsters are. But fighting isn't the
only thing that's random.

RUNNING THE GAME

To play Incense, you must have QBasic. QBasic is
a program used to make your own programs. It is
included in DOS 5.0 or higher. Just go to the C:>
prompt and type "QBasic" (without the quotes (duh)).
Then go to file, open, the path where Incense is in,
click on it, and click OK. It may take a few seconds
to load on slower computers (on my 86 it takes two
minutes). When it comes up, press F5, and it will run.
To exit QBasic, go to File, then Exit.

PLAYING THE GAME

Incense is a text game, but don't let that stop you
from playing it! Just because there aren't pictures
doesn't mean it isn't fun. Anyway, the main controls
are kind of weird, and you may want to write them down:

Press 1 to go North
2 to go South
3 West
4 East
5 See how much gold you have
6 See how many turns you've used
7 Exit the game

Throughout the game you will use other keys, but it will
be explained to you when you get there. You must get
10,000 gold pieces to win the game. Once you have used
300 turns, you will die. Remember, you don't want turns.
Turns are bad. So when someone offers you turns, don't
get confused! Say NO to turns! If someone offers to
take away turns, say yes! That's good!
Incense is pretty big. It has almost 100 rooms and
places to go. Very often you will enter a room that
appears to have nothing in it, but if you come back
later, there may be something in it. Also, if you come
back to a room that did have something in it, it may
have changed.

OTHER STUFF

I had a lot of fun making this game, and you'll
probably think lots of rooms are silly. This game
doesn't have one linear story line, but lots of
different, branching, small plots. I hope you have
half as much fun playing it as I had making it. (Half
as in if you have half as much fun as I did, you'll be
having a pretty froody time.)

If you have any questions, find any bugs (don't send
me e-mails about typos, I know they're there, deal with
it), like my game and want to tell me, like to talk to
people, or ANYTHING, e-mail me at:

Also, check out my homepage to download my other
games or read a couple of my old stories (the ones
I'm not embarassed to let people read) at:

One more thing: this game is shareware, so if you liked it please
send some money (however much you think it's worth) and your e-mail
