This is an occasion of great joy! Today we celebrate the life and pilgrimage of Peg and Mike. We join together with them to celebrate the faithfulness of God and His many rich blessings on their marriage and their growing relationship. It is with a sense of reverence and the Father's delight that I invite you to pledge to His continuing plan for your lives together. I want to assure you of His promised blessings on your marriage as each of you pursue His Will. By this covenant, you will each lay claim to His abundant grace and your mutual rejoicing in one another. Michael, God's Word teaches that as the husband, you are to be the leader of your home. Are you committed to love Peggy as Christ loves His Church, and will you, as He did, lay your life down for her? Will you protect her, defend her and nurture her as He does His Bride? Will you minister the Word of God to her thus enabling our Lord to present her to Himself as a part of His Church? Will you be first of all a servant and leader to her in your own home? As Jesus is our Priest, will you faithfully represent her needs to the Heavenly Father? Will you continue to provide for her as God gives you grace and blessing and so be an example of the Lord's provision for you? Just as the Lord has given to each of us His Name, His glory and His honor, will you share freely with Peggy all that God gives you of His honor, authority and possessions?

Michael, the Lord Jesus has always been faithful toward you, will you now, in the same way be faithful to Peggy in all seasons and circumstances, as long as you both shall live? Knowing these are your God-given responsibilities to your wife, will you now, trusting God's grace make these commitments to Peggy? "I do." Then so pledge. "I, Michael, pledge by God's grace to be a loving leader in our home and to love you as Christ loved the Church. I pledge to be your protector and defender and a faithful minister of God's Word. I pledge to provide for you and share freely with you all that God gives to me of honor, authority and possessions. I pledge to be faithful to do these things in all seasons and circumstances as long as we both shall live." "I, Peggy, pledge by God's grace to be to you what the Church is to to Christ, to uphold your leadership and minister to you. I pledge to strengthen you and to support you. I, too, pledge to love you and to seek to be a delight to you with graces that please you. I pledge to do these things in all seasons and circumstances as long as we both shall live."
Peggy & Mike, your rings will be a symbol of your marriage. The metal is to symbolize the strength and purity of your devotion to each other. The circles symbolize your complete and unique union. Mike, as you place the ring on Peg's finger, before God and these friends, seal your vows with this confession: I, Michael, acknowledge you, Peggy, as the Father's gift to my life. I will love you according to God's Word to forsake all others and stand by you through every trial. With this ring I bestow upon you my name, my possessions, my enduring affections, in the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

I will love you according to God's Word to forsake all others and stand by you through every trial. With this ring, I receive your name, share your possessions and give you my enduring devotion in the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ. As these rings are linked together and are entwined around the cross it is our prayer that our lives will be eternally bound together by love and that our Lord, Jesus Christ will be the head of our home and the center of our lives. |
I know that our vows were never broken... As long as we both shall live...we all say that in some form during our vows. I believe and I know that Mike believes that he still lives, only now he lives forever... and because he lives, no matter what, he promised he'd be my protector and defender and provide for me... he won't stop now. I will miss his physical presence with me but I know he is no farther away than Our Heavenly Father, and our babies.

I can only imagine him holding our tiny babies that he held once before. I know how much peace he found knowing that he would be with Annie and Michael once again, never to be apart.
