Teaching Shakespeare Institute 2006/Maurine Slaughter
Welcome, colleagues, to my rudimentary page.  I like to think that I'll eventually have something to offer you here.  I'm already learning so much from all of you and from the amazing TSI faculty.

Throughout my Interlochen teaching career, I was primarily an American specialist and taught such courses as American Literature, Southern Literature, Short Story, Psychological Literature, and Language and Composition.  Following the retirement of Interlochen's legendary Shakespeare teacher two years ago, though, I began to plan to teach our Shakespeare elective.  I taught the course for the first time last year to three sections of juniors and seniors.  I greatly enjoyed the experience, despite badly breaking a leg within a day or two of beginning The Scottish Play.  My point is that even with 30 years of teaching experience, I am a novice at teaching Shakespeare, and I am discovering this month how intimidating and exhilarating the experience of being a novice can be.
