Marv and Peggy Dunn
Send You and Yours
2008 Christmas Greetings!
Sarah and Craig thrilled us with the addition of Jordan Arthur Dunn Penquite on March 8. A lucky set of circumstances meant that Peggy was present for his birth while G'pa Marv babysat big brother Elijah. The Dunn Penquite family is happily living in Indianapolis, where Craig remains an architect with CSO Associates. The firm was forced to lay-off some workers and cut the others' pay by 10% but, as they say, at least he has a job. Jordan is pulling up on things and looking ready to walk. Eli attends 2 days of Preschool at Sarah's UCC church. All 8 of us are getting together for New Year's Eve and Day at their house on Keystone, then we'll enjoy a cottage we're renting in southern Indiana for the 1st weekend of 2009.
Ken has had a roller coaster year. He was laid off on Jan. 3 from his job in Chicago. He had three offers in about 6 weeks and took a job as the only other employee with an up and coming planning firm in Southfield. He loved the work but the crummy economy caught up with them and he was once again laid off in November. At this point there are no jobs in his future and he is looking at working on a Masters degree in Planning. His fiance, Jen Pachman, has one more term of classes and 12 weeks of clinicals for her B.S. in Veterinary Technology. Luckily, her job prospects remain strong. They are excited about planning for their wedding in June at the Alumni Chapel at MSU. Jen was thrilled to be named Jordan's Godmother (see below).
Peggy is happy to have dropped nearly 40 pounds since April(after most of these pictures). She hopes to maintain over the holidays and then continue to lose with her new low carb life style (NOT a diet!). She is having a difficult year teaching second grade at Central School in Okemos where the changing demographics have brought challenges at every grade level. She is grateful for a good, competent, male intern from MSU to share the load.
Most of Marv's extended family got together at Mothers' Day for a celebration of the "Matriarche" of the family, his mom, Thelma Marie Loudenbeck Dunn Hansen. She was overwhelmed with having everyone together, and with the memory book of pictures from over the years to which we all contributed.. Marv continues to enjoy his contacts with the elderly as coordinator of the Ingham County Meals on Wheels program.
We had a wonderful Spring Break at a resort in the jungles of Belize, about 3 miles from the Guatemalan border, with our buddies, Kris Wisniewski and Heidi Thornley. It was a rigorous trip with excursions every day, including a one day trip to Tikal in Guatemala.. Other traveling has been confined to trips to Indy to see the grandsons or camping with our wonderful new camper, with which we are THRILLED!!
We are pleased to have heard from so many this year and look forward to receiving more updates in the weeks to come. We are blessed to still have three parents and cherish chances to get together with them. This summer Peggy's mom, Ann Savage, moved from her condo in Ann Arbor to an independent living community in nearby Saline. Brecon Village is a United Church of Christ facility that also offers assisted living and is affiliated with Evangelical Nursing Home for a continuum of care. Marv's parents, Thelma and Clarence Hansen, are comfortable in their condo at Burcham Hills, right around the corner from us. They are also in a continuum of care, so we can all rest easy, knowing they are well cared for for life.
