Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving Night
It's been a long week...mainly becauase I drove to Vegas and back after work on Tuesday. Interesting drive in the pitch black.  Yesterday I decided on the two dogs I'll be working with training-wise.  Chester (above) and Brook (not shown). I spent a lot of time with both of them today.  They are complete opposites.  Chester has a lot of energy, and loves to be around people.  Brook, though still quite young, is semi-feral, and she doesn't quite trust people.  I tried to win her over today, but had to settle for baby steps.  She doesn't enjoy walking on the leash much, and she really didn't care for Alex.  I had planned on taking her home today, but I think she and Alex will need to have a few more meetings.
I can't bring Chester home because he marks, so I brought home an old guy- Orbit (also pictured).  He just wants to be close to me all the time.  He finally fell asleep though.  He and Alex are passed out behind me....

Sunday November 21st, 9:25 am Mountain Time
Hey everyone- it snowed at my house for the first time since I've been here. It's very pretty, but it's also ridiculously windy. Alex and I attempted our usual walk around the "block", but when we turned into the wind, Alex refused to go any further so we had to turn around. Maybe I'll get to ski around later though!

My computer wasn't cooperating earlier, so now several hours have gone by, and much of the snow is gone, even though it's been snowing off and on all day. It looks as though another squawl is blowing in...
This week flew by.The weather has been gorgeous- sunny and warm, which was good because I was working outside with horses most of the week. Working with the horses included feeding, mucking, and watching training and shoeing. Actually we "assisted" with shoeing by holding the lead of the horse being worked on, and "correcting" him if he started to move in the wrong direction. Farriers are very brave to stand under a horse with one leg held between their legs. Not for me. :)
The last two days we had two teen groups from the Raindancer organization with us- boys on Friday and girls on Saturday. They helped us muck the horse pastures and were rewarded with a tour of birds and wildlife in the afternoon. I've been seeing a lot of wildlife on my own these last few days. There is a jackrabbit who hangs out in front of my house. He isn't terribly big, but his ears and back legs definitely give him away. I've seen a coyote trotting across the highway a few times on my way to work, and I have been hearing the pack howl just before dawn when I come out with Alex. And yesterday, I saw an eagle sitting up high in a tree, the"famed buck" with the big rack, and a mountain lion track! Of course, I didn't have my camera available for any of this. Oh, and I forgot the turkeys! Every day the group gets larger- I think they are escaping to the sanctuary in hopes of being spared for Thanksgiving. There will be no turkey served to us Thursday! (By the way, I complained about having to eat vegetarian lunches before I left, but the food here has been amazing...and it's free so I can't complain!)
Orbit likes to look at me in the mirror....
Which one is Alex,
